Nausea

I have been sick for the last 5 years. My stomach is constantly burning. Like my actual stomach area. Some times are worse than others. I also feel like I'm going to throw up most of the day. I've been to doctors and all they can tell me is that my stomach is inflamed and they put me on Reglan. I took it for about 6 months but it didn't help at ( Read more... )

Ground ginger caplets work wonders for me, other methods of ingesting it just caused heartburn and made the problem worse. I'd also try to find new doctors. I struggled with extreme nausea and near daily (nightly, actually) vomiting for two years, ended up having a lymph node biopsy to make sure it wasn't cancer, and it turns out it was an atypical ulcer and taking one course of antibiotics for an unrelated issue cleared up years of misery.

try the elimination diet for a while. basically you give up grains (esp. corn and wheat), dairy, sugars ('cept raw honey), and legumes (esp. soy and peanuts) for a month. then gradually add them in, one a week, individually, to see how they make you react. likely your problem is inflamed intestines due to food intolerances. wheat, corn (and all its byproducts), dairy, and processed sugars are the main culprits.

pick up peppermint tea and ginger tea. they are easy ways to consume mint and ginger.

getting away from processed foods might be the answer here...

That's my ultimate goal but where I live fresh foods are extremely expensive and I just don't make the money to pay for them right now. As soon as I finish school in December I'm hoping to be able to buy better foods. Until then I have to deal with it.

Is it just fresh foods that are expensive? Like, are there frozen and/or canned veggies, meat, and fruit you could buy? My usual method of making dinner is to saute or stirfry up some veggies and meat, mix them together, and add some type of sauce. It's pretty easy to make wheat-free, healthy meals that way, and you could easily use frozen or canned stuff instead of raw/fresh food.

I also find that when my stomach is acting up, it's time for me to go get a chiropractic adjustment. It does wonders for me. I also back what Towardwild said. Look into the virgin diet and see if that would help you at all.

I second drinking peppermint or ginger tea throughout the day. You might also try peppermint oil capsules.

you may be able to find more things than you think that aren't processed - it just takes a lot of label reading. 10 years ago (before organic, whole foods were as available as they are now), I was in college, broke, in a rural area, and i was able to mostly eliminate dairy and meat out of my diet. there are lots of packaged foods that don't have allergens, you just have to look for them. if you have a target near you, their market pantry and archer farms brands often have "real" ingredients without MSG, hydrogenated oils, etc.

even if you are just able to reduce the amount of whatever is irritating your stomach, it will be worth the effort. i promise. don't give up or think you can only do this if you have lots of $$ for groceries.
