I actually went to the dermatologist when I went off the pill & my adult acne started up HORRIBLY and wouldn't be fixed when I went back on the pill. My doctor said that the cystic acne on my lower jaw and neck was common in adult women acne. She also said women oftentimes get acne in adulthood!! It made me feel a lot better ( ... )

For two months I tried witch hazel on one side of my face and the presribed cream on the other side, to see if it made a difference. The cream worked better, so ditched the witch hazel. But everytime my face is somehow *calm* I want to try out other more organic things, see if I find something that works for me.

So far I'm only using one prescription cream, one moisturizer that's free sale and a special face wash. I'm ok so far and hope it will stay that way.

One big disadvantage i've noticed: my scalp got much, much oilier. Now I need to wash hair every day or every two days, while I was on the pill I was good for three days.

An aesthetician I once worked with suggested Black Cohash as a transitional supplement when a friend of mine was going off the pill and having horrible acne breakouts. Might also check with a naturopath, acupuncturist, herbalist, or other holistic practitioner.

I second checking with an herbalist. Black cohosh is some pretty serious stuff.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you and curious as to the answers ( ... )

your doctor should be aware of white coat syndrome- it's well documented that blood pressure goes up in the first few minutes you are sat in the office/room waiting to see the doctor and that if one reading at the beginning of the appointment is high, another should be taken in the middle or towards the end after you have had a chance to take some deep breaths and calm down to see where it really is.

my blood pressure is so low that i have had the emergency button pressed several times because the nurse was afraid i was close to passing out. nope, just naturally very low bp. 110/65 is high for me.

i hope you can figure something out in time for your wedding!

thanks for your comment :)

she isn't my actual doctor, just someone i saw at a walk-in clinic to get a prescription on the pills again as i had run out and forgot to get more. i had told someone about how my blood pressure was apparently super high (she had freaked me out at the appt!) and he had mentioned that it's totally normal in a dr's office - just like you said. she did take it three times, but ALL IN A ROW. so each time she did it, i became increasingly anxious. all i could think about was that it would be too high and she wouldn't give me the pills that saved my skin which of course made the BP go out of control. she even asked what was 'wrong' with me. uhm. you are what's wrong with me, haha.

oh no! she made it worse! that is horrible. do you have any pharmacies/drug stores that have blood pressure machines where you can take your own blood pressure once or twice a week and write it down and keep track of it that way to show any doctor you see what it has been over the past few days/weeks so the next doctor you see understands that your blood pressure is elevated due to stress? i am also going to say that there is no way she should have taken your blood pressure back to back like that if it was reading high on the same arm- she should have switched arms to see if it was equal on both arms to give you a chance to calm down ( ... )

Me too. I'd like to see what people have to add. I had atrocious acne as a teen (ie: accutane didn't work). Birth control saved my face. I'm too scared to go off of it and have my face explode again. :(

I have adult hormonal acne and my doctor put me on spironolactone. She was considering either Accutane or BC pills, because it was that much of a train wreck. I'm also on RetinA- I've tried natural treatments and nothing works. I use a tar soap to wash my face and witch hazel as a toner. I wear tinted moisturizer in the daytime so don't use much at night. At this point I rarely get a breakout- I had a couple last week because our power was out for 5 days and things were a mess heatwise, but they've cleared up now. That was actually the first breakout I've had in months.
