Shampoo Bars

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone uses a shampoo bar and if you have hard water. I'm in Cleveland, OH and we have pretty hard water, not as hard as some places but pretty hard. Very metallic as well. I've tried no poo and more natural shampoos but since the results are meh, I'm still searching for the best hair care routine. Just noticed this past ( Read more... )

I have hard water and use a shampoo bar my friend (a soap maker) made. It is fine. I do use a clarifying shampoo every week or two.

I have thin fine wavy hair.

Do you only use the shampoo bar? No rinse or anything? Sorry to sound like I don't believe you, I just can't imagine only one item with hard water. Also, what clarifying shampoo do you use? Thanks and sorry for so many questions!!

Just rinse in regular water. :). I do use a more conventional conditioner. I can't recall the name of my clarifying shampoo. I'll check when I get home.

Got it. So you are using a conditioner after the bar? That would make sense, any time I try anything with real soap on my hair, it is a tangled mess. Thanks!

My hair has looked oily immediately after using a vinegar rinse, but I discovered that it was because I was using too much vinegar. When I added more water to my mixture (like a 1:10 ratio of vinegar:water) it didn't look oily at all.

I've had that problem as well. AVC is not a great fit with my hair but WV very diluted seems ok.

I have hard water and fine hair. My skin type is mixed, my scalp tends to be a bit oily. I use Desert Essence shampoo, raspberry. If I need conditioning, I use their green apple-ginger, which has jojoba oil in it.

I use Chagrin Valley shampoo bars and they are the best. I have used other natural soap bars and they've either dried out my hair or make it feel sticky even when I used vinegar rinses. (Although, among Chagrin Valley bars, a couple have made my hair feel stickier than usual, so I stick to the couple that work best for me...can't remember the sticky ones.) I shampoo every other day and use a vinegar rinse once every couple of weeks.

I have fine, thin hair that is cut short. My water is not super hard but it's not soft either.

Which Chagrin Valley bars do you like best?

Cafe Moreno is the one I use most often. It has coffee in it and is for brunettes. To be honest, I can't remember my impression of the other samples I've used, mostly because the bars last forever so it's been forever since I've tried anything new. I think the Tea Tree and Neem made my hair feel sticky, but maybe if I'd used the vinegar rinse more consistently it would have been better. I tried the Herb Garden one first and I remember liking it. Oh, and the Honey Beer & Egg is good. You can get sample sizes to test them and see which ones work best for you.
