Spotted Spinach

I bought a bunch of spinach leaves at the grocery store last week. I went away this weekend and wrapped them in paper towels to keep them from rotting- as they would have if I'd left them in the plastic bag- while I was gone ( Read more... )

What color are the spots?

They appear to be white, but not like... bright white, as I would expect mold to look like. It actually looks almost like little needle-sized punctures through the leaves, but there's no corresponding hole or indentation on the other side of the leaf.

If it is mold, it should be entirely safe to eat the leaves that aren't affected.

However, "spots" don't necessarily equate to mold. So, I dunno. A more detailed description might help?

my parents grow spinach and when they pick it out of the garden, they have to clean out the bad leaves.. a lot of times i have seen white spots on the leaves they are throwing out. they wash the other leaves and cook... this has been happening all my life and we haven't gotten sick from it. i can't tell you more than that there were white spots... (sadly) i have never paid more attention to it. good luck!
