I have some questions and am looking for advice regarding tea tree oil vs witch hazel as a daily facial toner. General facial skin information is that I have very oily skin and large pores around my nose and cheeks. I am not so concerned about the pores just with controlling breakouts ( Read more... )

Personally, when I was using a toner I preferred rose water.

How are you cleaning your face? I ask because I used to have skin similar to yours. Then I switched.

There's a local herbalist here who sells a face scrub that she concocted back when she was a teen. Her skin is gorgeous so I decided to give it a try. Since switching my skin has become clear, soft and not in the least oily. It's wonderful. The scrub is a combo of corn meal, oatmeal and poppy seeds, sprinkled with rose petals, lavender buds and chamomille. (The flowers are optional). I just take a little of that, mix it with a little honey or vitamin E oil (water if I'm out), scrub and rinse. No toner needed. I moisturize with just a touch of coconut butter.

Oh it is. I get so tempted to lick my fingers (especially when I use honey). It works amazingly well, too.

Right now I am using a Clean & Clear face wash but I am trying to move to more natural methods (this is why I am looking into the tea tree & witch hazel). I will have to check out a place where I can find some face scrub like this or make my own. Thank you!

Me too. Also, I use tto by itself directly on pimples or problem areas.

Thank you for this suggestion. I think I will give this a try. Do you know where to find any witch hazel that does not contain alcohol? The one that I found does have a little alcohol (5% I think) mixed in.

And to sound totally dense, why is it a problem to have alcohol in it?

I don't have any advice, but I wanted to thank you for posting this. I use tea tree oil shampoo for my dandruff, but never used it for my face. Due to this post, I began to mix the witch hazel & tea tree oil for my skin and it feels and looks so much better.

So, thank you.
