A friend of mine used it as a weight loss tea and thought it worked, but she also cleaned up her eating habits at the same time so I don't know how much was the tea and how much was the lack of junk food.
Honestly, you won't find much for evidence on the weight loss tea unless you speak and read Chinese.
Generally, pu'erh acts likes a appetite suppressant. Drink tea instead of eating right? And most people love the taste of plain pu'erh and don't add things like sugar or milk to it. Which again, little calories add up.
In China, it has proven to help rid the body of toxins, and pulls out the "bad" fats. But, pu'erh is an aged tea. It is fermented and that process add antioxidants into the tea, just like how drinking wine helps the body.
additionally i've personally found that after a huge unnecessary meal like indian buffet to the point of physical pain, pu-erh slices through the food and after a few cups i can feel my guts moving it on through, i burp a lot and the pain dissipates.
i think any non-herbal tea has the ability to help somewhat with weight. i like switching it up between oolong and white teas and have found that some of the darker oolongs(wuyi, especially) can feel like pu-erh sometimes.
