Natural deodorant

Over Christmas I was pleased to learn that my mall back home had gotten a Lush store! I poked around and let the sales lady talk me into their natural creme deodorant. Well, I liked it for the first two weeks or so, but then I noticed that it burned a little when I put it on. Later I noticed that my skin was peeling. Determined to get my $10 worth ( Read more... )

Which lush deo are you using?

A few tips to prevent the fire-pits that some folk (mainly folk who have their armpits) get-
1. wait a while between the act of shaving and putting on the deo (maybe shave at night rather than in the AM)
2. apply lotion prior to applying the deo. Some people like Dream Cream for this, while others use lubriderm or aveeno
3. apply a dusting power or powder deo like coconut or silky underwear first, then the deo

I personally use aromacreme topped with coconut deo powder, but I don't shave and thus have had no fire pit issues.

I'm using this kind:

I've tried waiting between shaving and putting it on (overnight) and I've also tried the lotion before putting on the deodorant, but maybe I'll try a different lotion?
I will try the powder. When my armpits are a little hairier I still have the issue of fire pits, so maybe I'm just really sensitive? And not shaving at all isn't an option (I don't think I could do it and my boyfriend would kill me, haha).

That's the same one I use. I tend to have very sensitive skin, but then like I said I don't shave. What lotion did you try? I know people like to use Dream Cream because it's a soothing cream to begin with. Also, how are you applying the aromacreme, and how much are you using per application?

FWIW I've never had a decent partner be turned off by my not shaving, but to each her own.

I gave up on Lush. Expensive products that hurt my skin? No thanks.
Unfortunately I haven't found anything that is "natural" (though Lush isn't exactly natural) that helps me not sweat as much.
These days I've been using a home made 'cream' deo (I say cream because that's what I want, but my recipe isn't quite there yet).
Basically it's a few butters with baking soda, EOs, and some other oils. So far I don't stink, so I guess thats good enough!

I know Lush isn't exactly natural, but it's better than the Adidas deodorant I was using before! But yeah, I am a little disappointed because it was expensive and it is hurting me!
Have you tried Toms of Maine deodorant? I considered trying that, but wasn't sure how well it would work.

Toms of Maine works really well for me. I use the unscented kind and it's effective and has never caused me issues with sensitivity.

I had the opposite experience: Tom's of Maine made my armpits swell up and blister after using it for a few weeks. I have never had that much pain from a deoderant before!

Body chemistry is weird. ;-)

I've found a couple of great deodorant brands, but they're Australian, so may not suit you. The best one I've found is Eden Organics, which is great and keeps working even when I'm at my job (I work on a farm and I work really physically hard, and in the heat). Eden's products are brilliant; everything I've sued of theirs is just great. 'Natural Scents' is really good, too. Probably doesn't help you too much, but on the offchance that these are available in your neck of the woods, then I highly recommend them.

Weird as it is, I am wiling to buy deodorant online! I'm in Alabama, home of everything synthetic and NOTHING natural, sadly. There is very little out here that I can buy in-store (I got the Lush deodorant at home in Massachusetts). I will check that out, thanks a lot! :)

I've never tried lush before. but i've heard of a bunch of natural deod's doing that. Tom's of Maine is one. For me anything with tea tree oil does it. :p sucks cause i like tea tree oil.
I can't remember the one i use but its based with lichen plant and tocepherol. :)

I use a combination of things - the mineral salt deodorant stick (something like this) and then the trader joe's natural deodorant on top of that. It works pretty well, and I don't usually sweat a lot as the salt dries you out and the tj's deodorant has cotton fibers in it for absorption (unless I'm super active or it's very hot out!).
