We just moved house because of oil prices. When we moved into the house, it cost us €350 to fill the tank. When we left, it was €950. It was kerosene.

Gas has gotten more expensive, too, but nothing like the fluctuation of oil. The house we are in now is super insulated and has electric storage heaters which are awesome.

Is gas considered a petroleum product? I thought it was a whole nother animal.

In our area fuel oil is allot more expensive than gas or even diesel. One of my co worker's home is heated my fuel oil, and she said that it was $4.25 a gallon, and it usually will last her 2 months, that's with a 500 gallon tank.

I'm not sure about the gas, is it natural or propane?

We have a electric heat pump, and our electric bill is $119. a month. But we do have electric waterer's for the horses.

That sounds more like what the realtor was telling us. Can you estimate about how much you paid for oil last winter?

There is also the fear that oil prices will drastically rise...

My co worker is close to 84 yrs old, and has seen her 6 kids grow up in it, her grandkids and now her great grandkids.

I think she said the house was around 120 yrs old, so I'm assuming that it's not that well insulated, and she also said that they have never put in a new oil burner in it since they bought it.

We live in a little town in the midwest, so they can pretty much control what our fuel and oil prices are. I know gas is still $2.49, and diesel is still $3.99.

It gets cold here pretty early, winter has hit us hard already, with 80 to 50 mph hour winds, since Wed, and then 5-6 inches of snow, it's just pretty miserable here. I know last year, temps dropped down to -10 to -20 in Feb and March. And the wind, I know we need it so the windmills pump, but it's nothing for it to blow 30-70 mph daily for months on end. We hooked up the propane heater for the cattle tanks so they wouldn't freeze solid.

"more likely to be stable in price, 2) less likely to leave me supporting Hugo Chavez"

excuse me? do you know anything about Chavez or Venezuela?!
If you do, Im very surprised because the above comment comes across as extreme ignorance.

Another thing to consider is how well it will heat the apartment. In my current place, I have gas heat with a forced hot air system, which is extremely ineffective. It's warm while it's blowing, but gets cold immediately afterward. I wind up using space heaters in addition, which makes both the gas and electric really expensive. I will never, ever live anywhere with forced hot air again.

We have oil and hate it. It's always cold in here unless we turn it way up, but that's not the biggest issue. It's so expensive. We have to use space heaters as back up because we just can't afford over $2k a winter to heat.
