Everyone I know with oil hates it due to cost and how high you have to turn it up to make it warm. Ofcourse for me and my family we always had gas, which is still high, and it was still always cold. When I had all electric our bill was cheaper than any gas bill my family ever had and we were able to keep it warmer. I know that's not one of your options but just so you know...
We have oil and have lived in our house 5 years. The first year we used 100 gallons a month, but we have figured out now how to make 100 gallons last more like 2 months. We close doors to rooms not being used, cover windows and also supplement with space heaters. We had 100 gallons delivered two weeks ago and it was $340. With oil heat you have to make sure to get the furnace serviced annually. It burns much more efficiently and safely. We had gas when we were still renting and it was about $200/month for a very poorly insulated one story duplex.
