pillows?

so it's time for me to replace my pillows. my head and neck and back ache every morning because of them... i've had them for maybe five years, and they've all just lost their fluff/shape. i'd want to get a pillow that's cruelty free and comfortable (stiff, but soft). i was looking into tempur pedic pillows, but i have no idea what's up with them ( Read more... )

You could just make/buy a new pillowcase if you like the memory foam one.

I have a Serta memory foam pillow since my dad has a Serta store.. he got me the most firm pillow in the store because my neck was killing me due to lack of support. It's pretty firm but still very soft and pillow-y. It fees like a custom made pillow when I use it. My husband refuses to use any pillow other than his Serta pillow. I don't know about cruelty free but it is man-made.

most standard pillows (the kind filled with fluff, not the memory sort--i don't know anything about those) should be replaced yearly at least.

better than having your neck and back be fucked up, yeah.

i give old ones to pets and only throw out ones that are really fucked up. just because they are no longer good for my neck doesn't mean they are instant trash. they usually become couch/cuddle pillows, then pet pillows, then trash.

I use the contour pillows from Target. I can't justify spending $90 on a tempur pedic one though I wouldn't turn one down as a gift. Also I used to get treated 3 times a week for neck spasms etc and since owning these pillows I don't see a chiropractor anymore. It's been about 5+ years now. They cost about $20 and aren't natural but relief is worth it to me. If you have never slept on one before you will need an adjustment period of at least 1 week. After that you won't be able to sleep with any other kind of pillow. I travel with mine even. It's the last thing out the door along with my purse whenever I go somewhere. I went a little nutty even when I left it at Walt Disney World but they fed-exed it to me at no cost and all was right with the world again.

If you do get one take note of it's proper side. One side of the curve is thicker than the other. Your neck goes on the thickest part. They are only slightly different so it can be hard to tell. Just make a mark on it with pen or something.

www.grassrootsstore.com has AMAZING natural rubber pillows - I love the chipped one, or if you like fluffy, their wool pillows are fantastic.
