I am trying to finalize my birth plan. I would love some feedback. Also, I'm thinking it's a little long so if anyone has any ideas on how I can condense it, that would be great! Thanks!
Nichole's Birth Plan
I would prefer a natural childbirth: vaginal birth without induction, augmentation, or pain medication.
My husband, Wesley, my mother, Wendy, and my doula, Kayti, will be present at the birth.
I would like to be able to return home if less than 5 cm dilated.
I would prefer the birth environment t have dim lighting, our own music, quiet, equipment unobtrusive, no extraneous staff, and privacy when desired.
As long as baby is tolerating labor well, we do not want to be hurried or given time constraints.
I would like liquids as desired and nutritious snacks if labor is prolonged.
Please do not offer pain medication.
I would prefer intermittent fetal monitoring, natural alternatives to pitocin if labor augmentation is necessary, spontaneous rupturing of membranes, vaginal exams only as necessary, and a heparin or saline lock if an IV is necessary. It is very important to me to have freedom of movement during labor.
I would like to deliver in whatever position is most comfortable.
I would like to be able to touch the baby during delivery and prefer mother-directed instinctive pushing. I would prefer to take the crowning stage slowly and controlled to avoid tearing. To avoid an episiotomy I would like perinel support and massage. If an episiotomy is absolutely necessary, I want to participate in the decision. My husband would like to cut the cord. I would prefer the delivery of the placenta to be natural: baby kept on abdomen, cord clamped and cut when pulsating stops, and squatting if taking too long.
If medically stable, I would like baby to be placed immediately on mother’s abdomen. Please keep lights dim. I would like to breastfeed immediately and for family bonding to be private: no birth attendants or staff.
I would like all newborn routine procedures and exams to be delayed until after first breastfeeding, baby to be examined in mother’s presence, and mother will bathe baby. Breastfeeding only: no supplemental formula or water, and no pacifiers. No circumcision. Baby is to be exclusively cloth diapered, parents will provide diapers.
Parents waive Hep B vaccine at this time.
