The Christmas Ball is tonight.

I didn't think I'd see another Christmas, quite honestly. Or snow, or anything beyond November, but here I am, alive and well. At least, as alive as I can be versus back home. I suppose the City's good for something, isn't it ( Read more... )

The City is good for something, yes. And I'm grateful for it. But you know, you really shouldn't spend so much time up on the roof, you'll catch a cold or something, and then I'll have to spend the next week listening to you sneeze.

Of course I'm coming! I've even got a dress, and I'll thank you not to laugh.

It does allow room for all sorts of impossible things to happen. And besides -- I like the roof. It's the quietest spot I know in this City. I can't very well listen to Bartimaeus through the wall the entire day.

I wouldn't laugh. Chortle, maybe. Quietly.

Quietest and coldest. If Bartimaeus is really getting that loud, I'll buy you some earmuffs.

Well, if the trousers you'll be wearing tonight are anything like what we're used to... I can assure you I'll be in hysterics, and not very quietly at all.

It's not that cold. It's rather refreshing, really. Surprising, I know, considering that I did not like winter as a child, but I don't mind it so much now. It's fine.

They're not like that! It's -- oh, does it matter? You'll out-do me, anyway. Women have a tendency to do that for fashion.
