My Utterly Adorable Small Animal-Sense is tingling rey_de_siestas February 1 2010, 04:04:53 UTC
Walking down the hall, Antonio's ears picked up an absolutely unmistakable sound. Soft, high, and accompanied by the soft scratching of paws.

Puppies? In his department?

He followed his ears until he reached the blonde woman's desk, and a quick glance underneath her desk told him everything he needed to know in the form of a nicely sized box with a small furry head peeking out at him.

It took all his self-control not to melt into a puddle of goo right there. He approached the woman at the desk and cleared his throat.

"I--ahem," he didn't know how to begin, "May I...the box under your desk...can I pet them? Please? Just for a minute?" His eyes were already gleaming at the prospect, because if there was one thing that hit Antonio's weak point every single time, it was cuteness.

Sophie had been feeling somewhat successful, until she heard the voice behind her.

S-shit! She tried to control her expression as she turned around in her chair to face her coworker. Moving to where she thought she was (mostly) concealing the box, Sophie attempted a calm smile. "What are you talking about?"

Yeah, maybe she should have tried an acting class during school.

Antonio tried to see around her to check if the puppies were still looking at him, but all he could see was one of their ears, and it looked so soft and squeezable...

He lowered his voice to a near-whisper. "Please? I just want to see them for a minute. I promise I won't say anything about them to anyone else! It's just been so long since I had a pet of my own, and I just--look at them! They're so cute..."

If he didn't get to pet one of those puppies, it was going to be a very sad day, indeed.

"I--" Well, she couldn't just knock him out and drag him back to his desk. Admittedly, nobody would probably be able to tell if he was unconscious because he was asleep or because he had received a blow to the head...

But him pestering her was going to draw more attention than just letting him see the puppies... "If you swear you won't tell anyone," Sophie said, moving just out of the way to show the puppies.

Francis needed to drop a paper off onto Gilbert's desk, but he was stopped by the sight of Antonio and Sophie conversing. Strange...he didn't know that they had any relationship other than just being in IA. But, ah whatever. He didn't care so much.

The Frenchman stepped to the door and knocked, peeking in with a curious and friendly smile.

"'Allo, what's going on here?" he said with a somewhat anguished smile (he was still recovering from the hole Arthur had left in his heart).

He waited, though, deciding that it was rude to step in without Sophie's explicit permission to enter.

Sophie froze. This... this could be where the trouble started. Her bosses had been oddly avoidant of each other recently, and while Sophie couldn't quite figure out the reason, she figured since it hadn't quite affected their performance, it wasn't her business.

"Ah, just... just showing Antonio something," Sophie said, maybe speaking a little faster than normal. "Is there something you need, sir?"

That 'something' caught him.

His eyes became more lively and he tilted his head as if he were going to get a better view from an obscure angle.

"Oh? Really? Antonio looks really impressed by whatever it is you're showing him. If it's not too much to ask..." he smiled cheekily, "may I see it?"

Sophie laughed, nervous. Why should she be so nervous, surely her boss would understand her--their--situation, wouldn't he? It wasn't as if she was planning on keeping the two there for more than a day., and it wasn't as if her director was a stickler for the rules.

She hesitated for a moment, biting her lip. Well, he was going to find out, one way or the other. Sophie moved to the side, giving a better view of under her desk. "You may have to move Antonio out of the way."

Gupta stretched as he typed up his reports. He wanted to get as far along in these financial reports as he could before lunch. He was interrupted by his officemate's chatting. He figured it was something to do with the marketing research and leaned over the cubicle wall and asked. "Miss Albers, do you have....??" his thought was cut short when he saw his department head there too.

"Um, may I ask what is going on?"

Gupta too?! Sophie was near panic mode now; it was one thing for just Antonio to have seen them, but her entire office? What if it got out of IA? She knew Ludwig and Roderich ran their department much more firmly than Mr. Bonnefoy did.

"Aha, they just wanted to see something! What is it that you need?" Sophie hoped he didn't hear any of the noises the puppies had made.

"I need the marketing research from the advertising department. I need to cross check the data." he said calmly. "You had them last I think."

He blinked at her strange, rushed movements. Then he heard a faint yapping sound.
"Miss Adlers? What was that noise?"

it's albers, btw sophie_vaduz February 5 2010, 06:35:31 UTC
Oh. He hadn't noticed the box. Good, good! Sophie didn't know her cooworker well enough to judge whether or not he liked dogs; if he didn't, the day might get awkward. "Yes, just a moment, it's right underneath one of the folders--"

Sophie flinched as she heard the yap, and for a moment worried that she had somehow stepped on or hit one of the puppies with her foot, but no. Sophie flushed. This was... not how she had planned for this to go.

Adam was working (not really) quietly in his desk until he noticed some kind of attraction was going on around Sophie. He didn't know why but people seemed to linger around her and that Spanish guy really looked perky after seeing whatever was meant to be seen. He ignored it for a while and focused on staring at the screen. Well, until he heard a soft little yelp, but it didn't sound like it came from a human. What. Did that box just move?

He glanced at her, stared inquisitively, and then decided to build the effort of asking himself. Curiosity, that damn devil.

Though when he approached, he tried to be as casual as possible. "Sophie? I heard and noticed something a little peculiar." he took another glance at the box. "Might that be it?"

they do look alike sophie_vaduz February 5 2010, 07:00:48 UTC
While Sophie hadn't intended for anyone to know about the puppies, it was a little silly in retrospect to expect them to go completely unnoticed. They were, after all, very active and not exactly quiet, even though they weren't exactly loud. They made noise just by wagging their tails in the box, a soft, little thumpthumpthump.

So this time, when Adam had noticed that something was amiss, Sophie only took in a deep breath. No one had had a problem yet on the floor, but it was good to be careful. "I--I found them in the garbage this morning," Sophie began, but then froze when she heard Bjorn approach. It was one thing for Elizaveta to know, but Sophie hardly knew Bjorn. She bit her lip nervously. Vash would be dropping by soonish to plan out dinner, wouldn't he...

Adam raised an eyebrow. "You found them...?" Just as he suspected, it is some kind of animal. It was moving around quite a bit and so he assumed that it is some kind of small cat or something. Whatever was in there, it was obviously unwanted since Sophie found it in the garbage. Though the thought of her rescuing an animal from the garbage --- well, he couldn't really judge. He turned his head to see Bjorn appear out of no where. His expression did not change nor did he feel like asing questions.

"Just the box." He told the older man casually. Adam gave it another stare until he heard an excited bark. He blinked in surprise. "A dog?" He always had a soft spot for dogs or puppies. Whatever it was, his curiosity poked him. With a bit of hesitation, he muttered, "Can I... see it?"

He was going to ignore it, honest to goodness he was. The scratching sounds, the whimpers, all of that he was willing to brush aside, only because he had made himself to believe that it wasn't anyone else, it was the dog ruffling around in his messenger bag. Giving a glance to the bag, he only managed to find nothing- no, Hana-Tamago definitely hadn't snuck his way back into his bag on his way out the door, right?

So then who...?

Pulling out from his desk, he made his way around and turned the corner, poking his head into Sophie's cubicle. ".. Sophie," he started, merely nodding as he walked in. "'Ave ya been 'earing things?"

The puppies had settled down, playing with her boss and coworkers had tired them out... for about fifteen minutes. Now, with a quick nap behind them, they were reading and raring to go play. Unfortunately for them, Sophie was still attempting to keep them in the box; at least they wouldn't be able to wreck havoc on the rest of the office. Sophie had been trying to think of a way to entertain the puppies, besides letting them out to roam about, when she heard her coworker appear.

"Berwald, she replied, smiling. Hadn't his dog accidentally made it into the office, once upon a time? She couldn't really remember... "Ah, yes." Well, she didn't feel like lying to anyone else... and then one of the puppies bit the other, and the poor other puppy yapped sharply.

Once he was able to get a good look around, he could definitely tell that the source of the noise was around here, he just couldn't figure out where they were were exactly coming from. That was when the area around Sophie's feet yelled with the proper reply. Practically jolting up, the Sweden's eyes widened slightly before his gaze shot down to the floor.

At the appearance of the canines, he softened a bit and sympathized somewhat, the corners of his lips barely up. "Ah, where'd ya get em?" Slowly, he got down and bent, hands on his knees as he watched the two interact.

Had he discovered them earlier, Sophie might have been a bit more worried. However, she had her director's blessings, and Berwald had a dog of his own. There wasn't much to worry about by this time.

"Outside at the dumpsters," Sophie said, smiling. "They didn't have tags or anything, so I just took them, it's not safe for them around there."
