nightmare apartment

I usually don't post a lot because not much happens in my life. The last 36 hours or so were an exception that probably warrant more than one post. I should get into how beautiful Yale is and how Konstanz (at least the university) does in no way compare but instead, I want to write about everything that went wrong ( Read more... )

Wow. Just...wow. That's definitely a situation to get out of! I hope you find someplace nice soon.

It is! And I did find a better place. Thanks so much for the positive thoughts.

The school and city are so amazing. And I did find something better. I'm still in the apartment for two more weeks (one of which I won't be here because I'll be travelling with my mom) but just knowing it's temporary makes everything better.

Ugh. So sorry. Roommates can suck. I know. I have had roommates from hell before.

Good for you for trying to get out of it. Now way should you have to live that like. No gas? No locking doors? And the filth? I'm not the neatest person but I keep all my mess in my room and don't let it impact others.

Glad you are liking New Haven though. That's a definite plus. :)

I'm not the neatest person either but I think there's a huge difference between a place looking lived in and the way this one does. The one I'm moving into on September 1 looks like people live there and that's so much better.

I'm sorry about the roommates from hell. At least you got out?

Grooooss! I hope you get out of that.

Though with regards to the keeping to themselves thing, maybe they're just really introverted? That's part of why I live alone, because I am and the last thing I want when coming home tired is to have to interact with MORE people. I'm always afraid of someone getting angry at me because I spent too much time alone that I'd rather not be in that position.

I know one of them is a little shy and keeps to herself (but she is really nice and helpful) but the other one is not introverted at all. She won't stop talking when it suits her and when she wants something but when it doesn't, she'll lock herself in her room and try to ignore me knocking which I find a little rude.

In general, they always lock their doors here. That's something I've never encountered before when living with roommates and it doesn't foster an atmosphere of trust and friendship. I've been doing it because they do it and (most importantly) because I don't have anywhere to leave my passport yet and I'm really worried about it being stolen since the apartment's front door doesn't lock and I'd be screwed without a passport. But I've seen that at least one person in the new apartment don't lock their doors, so here's hoping that I'll see nicer, friendlier times.

Eep! Good luck getting out of it. I think you have all good reasons to be able to break the lease. Fingers crossed you can get out soon and that you can find a good alternative! There must be cleaner/better working apartments out there :)

Thanks so much! I found one and didn't even have to break the lease since I'm moving into what is pretty much exactly the same room in the same apartment by the same owner. It's just on the other side of the house and the roommates seem to be better about keeping the place clean.
