nightmare apartment

I usually don't post a lot because not much happens in my life. The last 36 hours or so were an exception that probably warrant more than one post. I should get into how beautiful Yale is and how Konstanz (at least the university) does in no way compare but instead, I want to write about everything that went wrong ( Read more... )

That sounds awful :( How is no gas (when you have a gas stove no less!) for MONTHS a minor, short term issue? do they have gas heat too? Winter in that place is going to be unbearable.

I hope you can get out quickly!

With the unfurnished room you could probably get a cheap futon fairly easily, or some furniture stores offer rentals.

Just two more weeks. One really, since I'll be out of town for one. Apparently me raising hell to the owner got the heat turned back on but I have no idea how they lived for so long without a stove. One of the girls told me it wasn't so bad since they had a toaster and a microwave but how are a toaster and a microwave in any way comparable to a stove? And yes, this place is heated by gas, so I have no idea what they would have done if I hadn't talked to the landlord. I think the only reason he took care of this is because he realized that new people are never going to move in if there's no gas; the girls who currently live here aren't going to move out even if there is no gas as they told me themselves.

I've never heard of rented furniture, that sounds pretty awesome!

WOW, holy crap. Yes, move the hell out, that is utterly disgusting, you were totally lied to. Jayzus.

Re: IPhones. When my daughter got a new one, the SIM card was free. Of course, that was with buying a phone and a 'contract' of service with AT&T. I'm not sure what you're planning on doing, exactly, but you will get a new SIM card with a new phone. You'd just have to take the info off your old one, either manually or put it on your computer (pictures and contacts and things) an then transfer it to the new phone. But yeah - SIM card isn't really your issue, it's are you planning on getting a contract with AT&T or Verizon or whatever so you can turn your new phone on and use it.

Good luck on all counts!

Thank you! I did figure most things out!

I don't want an AT&T or Verizon phone because those terms usually run for two years from what I can tell and I'll only be here for a little under one year and I don't want to keep paying for a service I will no longer be using. That's why I bought the phone and the sim card separately.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad start over there! Hope the landlord will see reason and give in; and I hope you'll find a new and most of all better place to live.

At least you like the city itself, so here's hope that the time at Yale will be a pleasant one, despite the problems.

I love the city. The university is so beautiful especially if compared to Konstanz which was built in the 1960s and looks very much like a block of concrete.

ANd the apartment thing got sorted out, so I've relaxed and can enjoy my stay here even more :D
