Wow, that must've been really cool! I've seen dolphins and humpbacks in the wild, which was cool, and once got to swim with a whale shark while snorkeling in the Philippines, but never orca.
You swam with a whale shark? I'm impressed. Did you get to actually grab hold of it and let it drag you along? I've seen pictures of divers who've done that and I've always been terribly envious of them.
I'm a total ocean freak. I've lived near the coast all my life and have always been one for snorkling and scuba diving. It's the closest I've ever come to visiting an alien world and I just can't get enough of it. It's a pity the water here is so damned cold.
You can still scuba dive in our water, though it's cold. You just need a special suit for it.
Awesome stuff though. Only time I saw ones in the wild, I didn't have a camera on me. Though I was younger, and usually having a camera meant borrowing my grandmother's. (I didn't get my own till I was 18) :( Hopefully I'll someday get a chance to photograph them in the wild.
I did my open water testing here in Puget Sound a few years back. In December. In the rain. In a wetsuit.
Once I was in the water and doing stuff it was ok but the actual GETTING IN was pretty hellish. All that cold water seeping slowly into my wetsuit was a very special kind of agony. :)
That ocean-freakery is why I'm moving away to get a degree in marine biology.I got to pet sharks in atlanta and Long beach and it was all kinds of amazing to see the critters doing their fishy thing.
( which means seeing you guys play, um...do you do shows on the east coast?)
This may be a little too little a little too late, but we might be getting into Vancouver for a show in January. I'm not sure if it's a definite yet, though. Will you be in town for that or will you have moved already?
As far as the East Coast goes, we're in the beginning stages of plotting some shows. It'll all depend on whether we can get enough shows in a row to make the travelling affordable. If all else fails, there's Dragoncon again next year. I'm really hoping they'll ask us back for a second year. Will you be there?
I love your icon by the way. It makes me giggle. :)
