Computer Stuff, Journal Stuff, Megaplex Stuff, and Insurance

I'm not sure I've ever really posted about my feelings on this, but I find the concept of a "friends cut" on LJ to be rather offensive. It sorta depends on who's doing it, but generally, if I'm following you on LJ, I care about you beyond just your words, and I also care about you enough to give you access to my non-public entries. So, when I see ( Read more... )

I know how you feel about the friends list dropping thing. i used to have someone that did this shit every 6 monthes and after a few times i just did not answer. I never really understood the whole cleaning out of friends lists other than to get rid of deleted accounts. I mean if you are getting rid of people who never post. WHY. it is not like they are clogging your list anymore and they are not but a name on a list elsewhere.

and yeah the name is probably bad but it is on purpose. friends make on feel important and these kinds of social networks like LJ and facebook and myspace prey on people that want to feel important and have very few rl friends.

Because as far as I'm concerned, if I mean enough to you that you still want to read my LJ when trimming down your friend list, I shouldn't have to reply to some post to still read yours. And if you really want to remove me, my reply to some post just saying "please don't remove me kthx" shouldn't make the difference in that decision.

I think the point of this is more to find out who's still reading a certain journal and who isn't, to keep oneself from unfriending people who still have an interest.

It's not perfect, of course, and I myself, if I did it, wouldn't blindly remove folks just because they didn't reply. But if they didn't (and if I thus assumed they didn't read my journal anymore), and if I didn't read theirs anymore, and if I felt that what friendship we had had long since faded, anyway...

But yeah, the best thing to do is to not friend people in the first place unless you have a reason to.

I feel the same way you do about friends dropping others from their friends list. Just recently happened to me by someone I know and often see in RL. I used to ask to be kept on as a friend, but don't anymore. *shrugs*

Anyway... have a safe trip and awesome con. *hugs*

All my entries are public anyway...well, MOST of them. ;) The friends list is, to me, just a way to follow interesting, funny people. If they no longer post, that doesn't make them stop being interesting or funny, and they may show up at a later date and I wouldn't know that if I got rid of them. Have never replied to any of the "Comment here to stay on my list" posts...but I don't honestly recall that happening ANY time. Maybe I just pick good people ( ... )

I also work for an insurance company, whom I am also insured with. We do charge a service fee for doing the monthly payment (which can include multiple policies, even multiple lines), but it's reduced if you set up automatic withdrawals (less mailing and payment processing charges). I personally don't mind paying what works out to an extra buck or two to have a consistent monthly payment instead of getting hit for much larger amounts at less frequent intervals.

I kinda forgot to reply to this, with Megaplex occupying my time, but as far as I can tell, there's no price difference with Geico for paying in bulk versus paying more regularly. They do make you sign up for automatic payments if you do it monthly, though.

And, while regularly-occuring payments are a plus for some (if not most) people, in my case, my income is unpredictable and irregular. I had the money this month to take care of it, but things could be tighter down the road. So, I typically make large payments in advance when I can, because with my current career, it's better to not have to worry about something for a few months than to have a monthly bill.

*hugs* It's ok, and I didn't write this post just about you, there were several others, on top of all the people in the past who've done this sort of thing.

*hugs again* I miss you :-P

Sorry, forgot to reply to this before. And at the moment, I can't plan that far ahead, so it probably won't happen this year. It'd take a financial miracle to make it happen :-(
