I'm so totally getting down on that friending meme.

Ugh, I am NOT liking that. I think Lydia being Lydia's focus next season would be the best thing ever. Not to mention, it'd be nice to find out what's going on with Lydia and her immunity without there being a "relationship" thrown in for her.

I absolutely LOVED Interstate Highway. It was such a brilliant Lydia character piece. Ugh. I'm gonna go read it again!

The media NEEDS to be but they never will because people don't want REAL queer people they want the fictionalized "safe" version.

re: Lydia. Exactly. I really just want her to be the focus. No Jackson, no Peter, no Stiles. Just Lydia focusing on herself and seeing how she explore her position in Beacon Hills (or if she chooses, her position out of the town). There is a lot of potential there, but ha, I don't have high hopes.

people don't want REAL queer people they want the fictionalized "safe" version. Exactly this. They want something that is easy to understand. Being queer, though, isn't easy to understand and there isn't like a simple box you can throw all queer people in. Sigh.

I would LOVE for them to explore that but you're right I'm sure it's never even crossed their minds.

I'm a consultant for Pure Romance(women's home parties)and in August we had our national training. While the awards were being given out for top sales, one of the winners was a visually "butch" woman. My team sponsor elbowed me and went "Hey Stiney there's your cousin." And it took me a minute to realize what she meant. I just stared at her a moment until the next winner came up who was a Hispanic woman like my sponsor. I elbowed her and went "Hey Jess it's your cousin." She just nodded her head then was like, "Touche. I got ya."

People don't see that. All the see is these stiff labels because it makes them feel better. More able to "understand".

re: Lydia spoilers: ……ugh. seriously, you'd think that after everything she's been through in the past two seasons, they'd get that maybe, she needs a break to focus and work on LYDIA, but… lol nope, this is television, what's this business about women being something other than props.

and now I'm thinking about asexual!Lydia because it's that time of night when my ADD meds are wearing off, and… this seemed like a more rational connection a couple minutes ago.

re: #5: …so, I'm new here, but a. ugh, I am so sorry you had to suffer through a cissexist discussion in your class. ♥ That said, your all-capsing made me fall in love with you a little bit, because that… is basically my raison d'être for talking about queer representation in fandom as much as I do, and sdkfhg, hello, new friend who also talks about queer representation.

I've sort of made myself want to write it, now. It's just having the same problem I've been having with a lot of writing things lately, namely the, "how do I make stuff happen other than, 'and then Lydia sat around and thought about her feelings'" problem.

And there's not really anything out there that you can read to get yourself pumped up about it is there?

I was writing this death fic and I was a bit stuck. I stopped and randomly picked up a story that turned out to be the saddest thing I've ever read. I went back to my story and TORE IT UP. I always search out or go back to stories with certain tones. They're just so amazing that instead of me slinking away in the fact my stuff will NEVER be that good they actually push me to write awesome stories.

Lydia totally needs to come into her own this coming season; I agree.

Also, should one start watching Elementary?

Yes! Elementary is great. I mean, it has it's faults and a few of the episodes are a bit slow, but the relationships between the characters - especially Joan and Sherlock - are so interesting. The show really seems to make a conscious effort to have good and often emanational character development.

And Joan is an AMAZING character.

Shall try it out, then! I enjoy new takes on established narratives.
