So, sourdough bread the first was a limited success. Good flavour, good texture and crumb, sadly it looked a bit like a large risen pancake. Hmmm, I think I may need to reconsider doing the secondary rise in a loaf tin, or possibly keeping the dough drier ( Read more... )

I really want to try sourdough bread. Did you use your own starter?

Yeah, I made my own starter dough following Hugh Fearnley-W's instructions and it worked really well. Magic! I'll find the link for them and post it in a reply. It took me a little while to get over being intimidated by the idea, but worked once I got going.

Ooh that would be great, thanks. I've been wanting to do it for ages but keep getting scared off as it seems complicated.

Fantastic!
A friend once made sourdough bread and underestmated how much it would expand so he had to transfer it from the large bowl he had to his bathtub...

how did Gwen get chicken pox? We just had Petra vaccinated at her 1 year dr appt - do they do that in the UK? I was surprised because there was no vaccine when I as growing up and we had one of those chicken pox "parties" where we invited over a schoolmate who had it to deliberately infect us. I guess I hadn't gotten it until later than usual.

Hope you guys are all well!

I think she must have got it at nursery, but they are only just introducing the vaccine here. Some places vaccinate at age 4, but no-one has spoken to us about it. It wasn't really a problem, she had a bit of a temperature and two tough nights where we gave up on getting her to sleep, and let her play til she was completely exhausted and fell asleep on one of us. Then when she woke up in the early hours we let her sleep in with us again, and that seemed to work. She's got some little red marks now, but nothing else, and they'll go soon enough.

She's just starting to walk, which is both supercute and hilarious, because she's so proud of herself that she falls over. We're well, but I'm tired and grumpy because of work issues.
