I have become excited by language learning again. The bub and I are doing baby-sign classes, the ones where you learn British Sign Language, and I have been amazed by the fact that it's not just a nice hour out now and then with babies, but good brain stretching learning. I had forgotten how much fun it is. I want to learn MORE. MORE I TELL YOU ( Read more... )

i don't but we are thinking about learning it for petra. when did you start with gwen? i didn't think it was time yet, but she's only about 2 months older than Petra so maybe we should. they teach it at daycare, which is great, but I don't know when they start.

We started when Gwen was 4 months old, and I've been mainly working on really basic things: milk, sleep, nappy change, you know, the essentials! I go to a class once a week, where we learn a few new signs every week, and we sign songs and play games with the babies using the signs we have learned.

I know that some places say anytime after 6 months, but our teacher thinks that sooner is better, after all, we talk to our babies from birth!

I would be really interested in the differences between British Sign Language and American Sign Language...

Gwen loves the classes, so I can't recommend it highly enough.

I'm not sure that the ability to sign "three little speckled frogs" or "dingle dangle scarecrow" have a HUGE amount of use in life, but it's fun.

I know exactly what you mean about grammar! I downloaded a Polish primer and it's very good, but doesn't teach the grammar; just words & phrases. i like seeing how things fi together and change with tense and whether there's an active/passive difference, and how it all relates and comapres to other languages, and, and, and.

Babies being able to talk to you is scary.

Eeeeeeexactly that about the grammar. I want to understand word order, and dependencies and all that stuff. I want to know what makes it TICK.... mmmmm lovely languaguage....

You ain't kidding. It means she isn't just an alien being, she's one that can communicate! Eeeck!

How are you doing? I have been thinking about you post examinating.
