Do you remember when high-definition television was launched? In case you're wondering, currently all of the programs on free-to-air television in Australia are broadcast via analog signals; with a few programs also simultaneously available in HD format. It's inevitable really, they did the same with Mobile Phones...the cricket currently on channel 7 has been broadcasted in digital, so if your on analog tvs it'll have the bottom and topped chopped off a little, can't read the scores XD That and it's from England who has their form of digital apparently ^_^

The government set that deadline after consultation with the local broadcasting and consumer electronics industries. Probably the same thing will happen with HD-TV TV that happened with digital mobile 'phones: Manufacturers and retailers will continue to charge exorbitant prices for HD-TV compatible equipment right up until the deadline, when they will suddenly realise that they would rather keep their customers rather than their excessive profit margins, and release "budget" equipment that pretty much does everything most people use anyway.

Early adopters always get it in the pants.

The only program I watch on TV is available on VHS & DVD anyway, so I probably wouldn't even notice!

well....set top boxes should be cheap by then.

and heck...there's always cable for pirated tv goodness ;)
