Yoga may possibly teach you how you can to forward bends without hurting your back. I would go to a class with a very good and knowledgeable instructor for it, though.

I know that one position I learned when I went to class actually eases my back when I do it right. The instructor's phrase "Let your bottom blossom" comes to mind. It means not to try to tuck in your behind the way we always want to, because it's unnatural to your back.
