Jack was so proud of being separate from One. Pride killed them all in the end.

This was awesome, and that was probably the most stand-out line for me. I see a lot of fic where Jack and Yvonne are at loggerheads just prior to Canary Wharf falling, but so many people gloss over the stuff immediately after or have Jack make an attempt at being the 'Dashing Hero'. That line (that whole section actually), paints an amazing picture where Jack is all "They've made their beds, let them lie in it."

Honestly? I think this is one of the moments where he regrets that decision. He thinks Rose is dead, he finds out just how screwed up the people who got caught in the middle are, and he might have been able to stop or ameliorate it had he *done* the Dashing Hero thing. Fixing Ianto will be part of his own penance.

Emmmm I actually have had to deal with this, facing a person is going to kill themselves and one of the tactics is to do exactly what jack did. Wonderful pieice of ficiton because hte tone was absolutly spot on. Well done
