Miz Nancy, please don't hate that I have this bad (lifelong) habit, but the first chapter hurt soooo much that I came here cos I was all teary and frightened and I couldn't stand the thought of reading even your beautiful story if it was going to end like it began, with soo little hope. I love your story which I've mostly not read...your writing just grabs my heart so fiercely and your Ianto is the best of that strange little man and his never dead lover. I like the family you create wherever you write, whatever you write and now that I can breathe easily again (just realized I've been doing that hold my breath against the pain thing I do) I'm going to go back and read about the most wonderful of things, family and the human spirit which is just too dumb or whatever to ever ever ever quit! Damn, this is good!
:) I get the need to know if there's a happy ending. Post-apocalyptic stories tend to be kinda bleak. Hopefully now you can read it with an easier mind.
OHMYWORD!! You done good and if I can stop tearing up==I am such a mushmelon, I'm like the Doctor, I believe in the best of human nature that it would really be the way you writ it and that somehow despite odds unbelievable and a scary near invincible enemy, somehow, life would prevail. I'm sad to lose Owen again and so glad you gave space and words to the beautiful spirit of Ianto's sister. Gwen, tough as nails and her loving Rhys, what an exciting pair they are. Martha is such an interesting character isn't she? You write their voices and mannerisms so close to the one...just knocks my socks off.
Okay that's all the good I'm saying. I feel boosted, right up there despite the rainy afternoon and too cool for my taste weather. You have my vote for whatever and thanks for the action==baby dragons....even baby dragons (death) are cute...you write more, please...cos I such as heck like reading. And I stupidly thought you had done well with the other longer story, man...
Thank you so much for not killing Ianto. I was onvinced that they would come back and find him dead, which would have been unutterably grim. Such a relief to have a happy ending...
:) Happy to oblige. The thing is, I played mix-n-match with the parts from the movie, and the part Ianto primarily played was of someone who got toasted, so there was the chance.
Fantastic! First one off the bat and it was great.
I loved Mica's statements at the beginning - it's amazing when you see things through a child's thoughts.
I do quite enjoy post-apocalyptic tales...even if we do see much loved characters die because while it may take some time for things to settle, there is always a light uop ahead.
Thanks so much! :) There's a kind of thrill about post-apocalyptic stories, isn't there, because you are really don't know who's going to make it. (I have a seven year old and an eight year old. Most of Mica's characterization is drawn directly from then, and yeah, it's always fascinating what they see.)
Yay, I found the story again. I was so sure I had a copy of this as a PDF but apparently I haven't. Can you send me a copy? madbottoms(at)gmail(dot)com

I felt bad about the baby dragons. But so did Martha.
Glad you liked it!

If you can't download it, I can see about creating a PDF.

When I was plotting this out, and suddenly Rhiannon was being all BAMF and dragon-slaying, no one was more surprised than I was. :)
