Title: crackle
'Verse/characters: Wild Roses; Belladonna (Hernén)
Prompt: 68A "shake the heavens"
Word Count: 177 197

The thunder overhead nearly lifts her off the blanket, makes her feel like her fur's standing out from her body so much that she looks like a thistle. She grounds herself twice accidentally in the course of standing up, and finds herself on two feet in sheer self-defense, her hair tangled and spiked out from the power in the wind.

The distant scream as lightning strikes a ridge nearby might be the air. Might be whatever just got hit, too--she wouldn't make a bet either way, and shudders as the thunder rolls over her, more feeling than sound this close, this loud.

One of these days that crazy mageblood's going to run into someone who can fight back the way he fights, and she won't know whether to dive for the deepest woods she can find and hope the lightning misses, or if she should laugh and call up the ones who sing the longest night and give them a day to sing, too.

In the meantime, she grounds herself on the swears-he's-not-rabid mageblood when he's not looking at her. Because she can. And he woke her up, shaking the ground and the sky with his storms.
