I'm gonna make this my standard disclaimer: I write and post my reviews before I read anybody else's. Sorry if I repeat stuff that's already been said!
I felt very sorry for Ben there on the table. And look at hero-doctor-Jack, jumping in to operate before Kate called him back. There was never any intention of Jack letting Ben die.
And Ben wanted "three minutes" with Juliet, that seemed significant to me, but I forgot to mention it.
Speaking of Jacob in the brainwashing movie, someone pointed out Rachel is biblically Jacob's mother, and Rachel was Juliet's sister. I'd forgotten eyepatch man was Jacob, good catch.
That J/K/S may be brainwashed and it may come out in the future is CREEPY. Seriously, chills. If you don't fic it, I might.
I was trying to finesse some theory with Juliet's sis and Cassidy's baby but just couldn't quite get there. I guess your idea is as good as any. :D
You know I'm totally with you on the Jack/Sawyer duality and dynamic and its importance.
And Ben wanted "three minutes" with Juliet, that seemed significant to me, but I forgot to mention it.
Yeah, I left that out of mine, too, but I did it intentionally. It reminds me too much of the video game theory, where there are a set number of scenarios and they have to use certain ones each season. I wonder if anyone ever asked for 3 minutes in S1.
I might have my Bible-memory all wrong and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think Rachel was Jacob's second wife...and also the sister of his first wife. And one of the sisters was infertile, and Jacob had a son named Benjamin. I could be all wrong, though.
If you don't fic it, I might.
We should both do it; the brainwashing idea is broad enough that I'm sure lots of us will explore it. I'm thinking along these lines: Sawyer and Kate were brainwashed into getting it on, and Jack discovers what happened and he has to get Sawyer back and deprogram him and remind him who he really loves. ;)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, maybe eyepatch man Jacob is Ben's father!
I like your brainwashing idea (although being brainwashed to have sex strikes me as kind of icky). Deprogramming Sawyer could be fun! You should write it! If I do it, I'll probably see which Psych_30 prompt I could work off of, since it IS Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Maybe "group think." Hmm. I'll have to ponder this some more.
Jacob went to see his uncle Laban, who had two daughters: Leah, the elder, and Rachel, who he fell in love with. He agreed to work for Laban for 7 years to win Rachel's hand, but on his wedding night the deceiver was deceived: it was Leah, not Rachel behind the wedding veil. A week later he was allowed to marry Rachel, but only if he promised to work for Laban for yet another 7 years.
Leah was very fertile, popping out 4 sons in a row, while Rachel appeared to be barren. After the 4th Leah-spawn, Rachel offered Jacob the use of one of her handmaidens (and later a second). The two surrogates produced 4 sons, which counted as Rachel's. Then Leah had two more sons, and finally Rachel had two of her own: Joseph, who was Jacob's favorite, and Benjamin, who became Jacob's favorite after Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers.
So Rachel was not only infertile, like Juliet's sister, she also used the best fertility technology of the day-- her handmaidens. ;)
im gonna go with your thoughts on the jack/sawyer relationship - cuz the thought of sawyer not wanting to rescue jack is just wrong and goes against the characterization of sawyer so far imo...if they go there, they will have to make up for it in a big way...cough*hotsex*cough!
the baby = clementine...works for me!...the thought that sawyer has a baby out there bothers me endlessly...
if they go there, they will have to make up for it in a big way...cough*hotsex*cough!
WORD!
I'm wondering, now, if maybe the reason Sawyer isn't with the rescue party in the promo is that they meet up with Locke and Sayid before they get to camp, and Kate leads Locke and Sayid to where the Others are, leaving Sawyer to take Karl to safety. That'd be more noble than Sawyer just refusing to go out of jealousy.
About the Sawyer-being-a-meanie-to-Jack. I have a theory. Sort of.
Sawyer will keep acting all jealous and meanie for a while. He will refuse to go with the rescue party. And we won't see him for an episode or two while everyone is too busy going after Jack.
Then, when something goes wrong (it's LOST, something always goes wrong) and everyone is already hopeless, our favourite con man does a Han Solo - comes out of nowhere, saves the day and shouts at everyone for not having found Doc YET. :D

Oh, I SO hope you're right! I would love nothing more than for Sawyer to do a Han Solo and save his Doc. *melts into a little puddle of fangirl goo*
love your review! there are nice points you touch in there. the black and while is very fitting. good catch about The Room. if they did that to Walt, that would be terrifying, in a way. did they put Michael in it? I don't want to give him excuses but I'm wondering. I don't think so since he kept talking like he was convinced they were living in huts, probably never went on the second island.
I doubt they brainwashed Michael, I think he's just a natural dickhead. ;) But Walt, yeah, I think they might've tried it and found out that it wouldn't work on him, that's why they wanted to turn him loose. I'm getting more and more worried that they've already done something to Sawyer's brain, though. But, I don't seem to be able to function unless I'm worrying about Sawyer in some way, so I guess this is perfectly natural. ;)
Amen to that on Michael. I've always hated his "I had no choice/I'd do anything to save my kid" BS. Instead of talking to Jack & co. & trying to work out a plan to rescue Walt together, Michael lies, manipulates, and eventually murders. His betrayal is complete, and completely his choice.
And I have trouble sympathizing with Juliet for the same reason. Maybe she is also a captive, and maybe she would do almost anything to get back to the sister who depends on her, but that hardly justifies some of the things she's done. She used Kate to manipulate Jack, and was utterly cold about Sawyer's fate when it didn't work. And then, she ordered the minions to track K/S down & kill them. She also murdered Pickett. (Sure, the world is a much better place without him, but murder is still murder.) Juliet eventually saved Kate & Sawyer, but only because it suited whatever deal she cut with Ben.
Juliet is an intriguing, complex character. She may turn out to be a forgivable character, but I'm not willing to grant her that yet.
I wonder if they'll all turn out to be forgivable characters, even Michael. It'll be a bloody miracle if they pull that off, but I guess it's in the realm of possibility. But not using the rationale that a parent would do anything for his child. Those murders were not necessary to save his child. I don't condone Juliet's actions at this point, either, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt while I wait to see what her excuse is. Michael...I'm not sure there is any excuse. :/
I'm still waiting to decide how I feel about Juliet. We all know that my feelings tend to hinge on how people treat Sawyer, and she was both prepared to have him killed and she saved his life.
Though I enjoy Juliet, and am intrigued by her, I think that she's in anything she does for herself. The reason that she said to kill Kate and Sawyer if they had to is because she's an Other and that's, I guess, what they do. And since she's most likely being kept there, with them, she pretty much has no choice but to do things Ben's way. Which, if you believe Danny (and that's a big if 'cause he sounded like a zealot when he said it) is a pretty ruthless way. But then Ben said he would let her go if she did what Jack wanted and helped Sawyer and Kate escape. So I believe it was purely selfish act on her part, driven by the fact that she wanted to get off the island she's been trapped on for three years. Can I blame her entirely? No. But that's just the way I saw it.
Alex, on the other hand, I absolutely love. Can't we age her a few years so I
( ... )
I think you might be right about Juliet. Even the act of "helping" her sister could have been motivated by purely selfish reasons -- wanting to use her as a gineau pig to further her research. I'm just gonna keep a close eye on her and not trust her yet.
If Sawyer *has* to have a daughter, why can't it be somebody like Alex? Not some chubby-cheeked cherub, but somebody who's tough and snarky and can give back as good as she gets. 'Course, Sawyer does NOT have a daughter, so there's no point in dwelling on it! :)
If they waste the Sawyer-Jack relationship they so carefully began to build in S1 and, to a lesser degree, S2, I will sue. And I'm not even kidding!
Oh, the colours black and white show up a lot in the show don't they? I first noticed it when Locke and Walt were playing backgammon and Locke held up one white piece and one black piece saying something like "Two sides. One light, one dark." and I've come to the conclusion that that's the theme of the show. I believe it's all about good and evil, light and dark, yin and yang, and finding the balance. The contrast can be found between two characters as much as it could be found in one character.
Kate and Sawyer Jack and Juliette Locke and Eko The Others and Jack and co. etc etc etc
I can go on for days and days (the black smoke killing Eko while he was in white, countless arguments where the 'bad guy' is wearking black and the 'good guy' wearing white) since I pay attention to tiny little things like that but good review. I like the Clementine theory.
Do you think The Others will let Juliette go home?
I've thought about this long and hard; since Jack and co. have a dark past, I truly believe The Others ARE the good guys. I believe they're an activist group working under someone very powerful trying to make people live their lives to the best of their ability.
I'd elobarate but I don't want to be wrong and I'm sure I'd bore you anyway. If I AM right, they WILL let Juliette go home since she finally stood up and took charge of a situation.
I kind of hope I'm wrong though. I like the idea of The Others being the bad guys.
I've written fic where I came up with a whole explanation of what the Others are up to and how it really is for the good of mankind, and I think it's a definite possibility, but I'm not sure I can totally excuse their ways of going about it. So far, they haven't struck me as the most ethical bunch. But I'm willing to keep an open mind and just wait and see.
I think we see the Others in our guys' eyes. After all they do feed them. But kidnapping Alex is a little confusing for me.
And did they say something about the sky turning purple? I must've missed that (I miss parts constantly since I flip to other channels during commercials. It's a bad habit) but that's good because that means Walt and Michael are coming back and I really, really REALLY want Walt to come back. Fast.
If this show was on daily I'd be the happiest girl alive.
