to LOL or cry?

In fiction workshop, my stuff got workshopped.  Didn't learn anything I didn't already know.  What did occur to me is that (I think) my fanfiction doesn't suffer from the same problem my original fiction does.  I don't think I've ever gotten a "I was very confused" in my fanfiction like I have in my original fiction.  I'm not sure whether to tear ( Read more... )

To be honest, I don't really get Eliot's poetry either mostly. (The Waste Land especially is a monster; Prufrock, the Hollow Men, and the Four Quartets are somewhat easier to grasp, at least. The Hollow Men in particular is good side reading for Waste Land as they cover similar themes.) I just love the way he utilizes language and the rhythms he constructs. XD

And to answer your question, I haven't read everything you've written, but what I have read is not confusing, no. Writing original fiction *is* different from writing fanfic though, mostly I think because fanfic allows for a lot of assumed knowledge while you're forced to fill in those blanks in original fiction.

The shifting narrators in The Waste Land was hard for me to follow. I might read The Hollow Men just so I can know how inappropriate it was to quote during a valedictorian speech, lol.

Read the fanfic or original fic? That is true; fanfic does leave the reader to fill in the blanks.

IMO Hollow Men is the most accessible of his poems. But good lord, for a valedictorian speech? XD

Both! One original fic that I remember was a bit vague (the one with immortal girl -- I sure hope I'm remembering this correctly), but not to the point that it was confusing.

Yeah... Apparently he inserted "This is how the world ends not with a bang but with a whimper" bit. Our Lit teacher loved to tell us as a "what not to do for a valedictorian speech." XD

Ok, thank you! I know which original fic you're talking about; that's the common comment I get on it, so I'm working on keeping the style but without being so vague/confusing.

TS Eliot kicks ass, NUFF SAID!

I was wondering when Yama was going to show up. But... WTF?! He's the strongest, just started fighting Aizen, and now he's already done for? Maybe Ichigo will finally do something besides stand there and look like an idiot.

Old man Yama better put up a better fight than that! But errr, I'd rather not have a year long showdown between him and Aizen though. LOL, yeah, Ichigo. XD
