It's much like the first time, physically: the inability to breathe, the pound of adrenaline. So, the fic revolves around the idea that Charles repeatedly falls from a building. I know I tried to use some of the same language from Part 0 (what Charles remembers/dreams of the fall) and Part 3 (when he actually remembers everything); so I might've tried to insert some of the same language in this scene too.There's no sudden explosion of minds against his, no help to be sought; he doesn't know how to reach like he did, not yet, not ever. It was a purposeful decision to be ambiguous as to whether Charles is thinking he will survive and learn to master his telepathy (not yet) or that he's about to die now and never will (not ever).
Charles falls, and this time, he expects to die. He isn't afraid, he's done this before after all. He feels rather peaceful in fact. After I'd written this scene, I realized his first fall might've been seen as advantageous by Irene ( ... )
