Sargon found one track in the neighbor's yard, near the site . . . a large dog print, could have been from a coyote, could have been from someone walking their dog

*hugs* i figured as much. a large cyote would probably have little trouble with the dog. cyotes might not be large, but like most wild animals, they are very strong. *hugs* i'm so glad you know something now that is some consolation.
Now that about your dream about being bitten by a cobra amazes me. I have nightmares about snakes ... pretty much the only kind of nightmares I`ve got (except for those about fights with my parents - some kind of childhood trauma, I assume). But I`m phobic as far as snakes are concerned. I nearly stop breathing when I see one on TV, I hardly dare to touch a bookpage with a picture of a snake. Don´t get me wrong - I'm not disgusted by them, I think snakes are beautiful, fascinating creatures - but I'm scared of them - I nearly hyperventilate.
Now I didn't think you - having so many pet snakes - have nightmares about them. I wouldn't be able to sleep in a room with snakes - probably not even in a house. Well ... no sleep, no nightmares ...
It is odd, in a way. I mean, I work with snakes, I play with my snakes, and I've worked with cobras and felt no fear whatsoever, only amazement and love.
And yet I have frequent nightmares of being bitten. I think it's not fear of snakes themselves, as much as it is an expression of fear of death. Sometimes I dream my husband is bitten, and that's a fear of separation. They're probably my most common nightmare -- right up there with school nightmares. Ugh.
My family lives 30 minutes from no where, but I live in Dallas, Tx. I lost all three of my cats in a similar way, in one year. Now our cats are not allowed outside at night, when coyotes, raccoons, owls, and all sorts of very large wild cats roam. This means a nightly feline round up, but it's worth knowing that we can keep them safer. My heart really goes out to your mom.
And since I moved to Dallas in 1999, I have seen raccoons, coyotes, and foxes living in the heart of the city. The only thing I haven't seen are wild cats.
That makes sense. I live in a city in Alabama, but we used to have a decent fox population where I live, along with owls, and I actually spotted a mountain lion one night, and the next day (before it moved on). No kidding, in an office park. Foxes will attack cats, that I know for sure. (Not usually, but they will - particularly if the animal is weak or injured. Or maybe it may depend on the nature of the particular attacking animal. Animals are no more all alike than people are.)
