The disability thing: I'm not getting as much money as I think I should be, but I'm getting an amount we can maybe work with, and possibly increase.  I still don't really want to talk about it or hear horror stories or even hear "It'll be really hard but eventually they'll give you what you want."  I honestly don't have the energy for "really hard ( Read more... )

Honestly? You've been through the hardest part, if your experience is anything like mine.

Once you have been officially declared to be disabled, there are things you can do (potentially) in regard to your eligibility to apply for various assistance programs -- but if you're getting SSI/SSDI, that's VERY GOOD.

(I've been on SSDI since 2006 and they've "reviewed" my case once -- it involved me filling out a form saying "Yep, still disabled," them checking in with a couple of my doctors, and then I got a letter that replied "Indeed, you are still disabled.")

Basically -- if they're giving you a base amount, you can possibly, say, get Medicaid or food stamps or something TOO, but they won't take away what you've already been awarded. So that's the part that you can relax about, if that makes sense.

Indeed.

They're giving me Medicare Part A as of August (for free!) and I turned down Part B because CareFirst is good to me and I don't need to pay an extra hundred.

I was approved for SSDI in July 2012, and in January 2013 they increased my monthly money just a bit. It wasn't much, it was maybe 25 extra dollars, but it made a difference between getting under a $something hundred$ and getting over a $something hundred* per month - it pushed me up into the bigger $something hundred$ and that was very useful
I think they do that with most people.

ashbet speaks words of wisdom. As someone on SSI and SSDI, once you have it, it is really hard for them to kick you off. And do look into what else you can get. I do know that, if they have you on SSI, you /have/ to be on Medicare unless you can show that you're on a better insurance. Considering that I was on GradMed for insurance, I was very grateful for this ( ... )

Ok. I know you don't want to share the really bad smut with we who know you, but I really want to buy it. Can I please?

Did you get an email from me just now, by any chance? If not, I need a different address.

I'm glad you're getting more than you initially thought!! :) I've been thinking about you.

IMO, keep the story bundles going! It may not bring in much, but even a little bit from it is better than nothing. I think it's awesome you have writing you can sell in the first place. :)

*wags* Thank you. Knowing I have folks out there quietly rooting for me does help a lot.

Hey, 30 bucks is 30 bucks... whenever I sell a piece of art or something and I catch myself saying "well, it's only (however much)..." I remind myself that is dinner, or a movie, or some other small luxury that is not in the monthly budget.

I know, half the time it goes to the budget anyway, but it feels better. O:)

Exactly. And doing the math, though, over a year, if I have ten titles, sell one copy of each of those a day (doable, if current numbers hold) at $0.35 . . . that's over $1,000. So . . . you know, it's a possibility if I stick with it.
