Never fucking mind about that, then.

Totally been there and it sucks. oklahoma sucks. but if it helps? if you do have kids over the age of 2, they'll help the kids, but not you. a girl I work with had this problem. 2 kids, one 5 one 3. doesn't make enough to live on, but can't get daycare help, doesn't get doctor priveliges (tho the girls do) or food stamps, because she, "has a job" DHS told her to quit her job and they'd help her out.

I was told by DHS that If I wanted their help, I'd have to have a baby. then I could get all the help for school I wanted.

there are some SERIOUS flaws in the system.

Keep your head up.

Ahhhhhh, there's the Naamah I adore. :) As I recall, it was a rant very like this one that made me fall in love with your writing. You are the most creative swearer(?) I have ever read, and my admiration for your creativity is boundless.

(Just to add a totally facetious note to an otherwise deeply depressing topic).

I hope that your caseworker is able to help. I was just walking a friend through the minefield-studded process of applying for disability (she has similar health problems to me, so I tried to give her some shortcuts that would help her leapfrog some of the infinite delays that held me up), and I just . . . I truly believe they make it hard on purpose.

They make it hard on purpose so that the sickest people give up and go crawl in a hole and possibly die, because it would cost more to help them than they care to spend.

State websites and entry programs for Medicaid are exhausting and demeaning and soul-sucking and mindboggling *on purpose*, in my opinion.

I'm so sorry that you were told that unless your uterus is spittin' out babies, you're not eligible for help. Because, you know, childless people have *no intrinsic value*.

*vomit*

I'm so sorry, hon :/

I completely agree with you. It's no accident, for instance, that when they built the new welfare office for my county, they put it way back on a cul de sac in an industrial park, as far as possible from the poor neighborhoods and not served by public transportation or even decent sidewalks.

Same bullshit here in Idaho. Doesn't matter if you're poor as shit and have chronic disease that needs constant meds; it's only for kids.

I hope your case worker can give you some help. {{{hugs}}}

I feel for you, it's stories like yours that make me so glad that I live in Australia, I got out of hospital yesterday after being in there for almost 9 months, during that time I went from being a full time student to now being on a disability pension, and probably there for the rest of my life. It is doubtful that I will ever regain my full mobility and will be reliant on a wheely walker and sticks.

I have no idea what would have happened to me if we didn't have socialised medicine in Australia, I'm guessing I probably would have died.

I am wishing and hoping that something can be done for you, no one deserves to remain untreated in this day and age in one of the most powerful and wealthy countries in the world.
