This is . . . fuck. He's pitiful. This is what he does. He will start playing, and then start coughing, but he won't put his toy down and . . . fuck. It's both hilarious and heartbreaking ( Read more... )

I sent you something. I hope it helps.

On the coughing subject, Yitzak used to do that. A lot. Ever since he was a young cat.

He lived to be 18.

Just a data point for you.

Zephyr had a cough like that for years. The vet thought perhaps it was asthma but since he was notoriously hard to medicate and it only slowed him down for a little while, we didn't do it. After he died, I looked up his symptoms. I know this is probably a case of too much information on the internet, but I think now that perhaps he had congestive heart failure and had a heart attack. So if the vet does want to do an x-ray, see if you can get him/her to check for that.

Yeeeees. Tazendra got a touch of that a little while before she was diagnosed with heart disease, just a little coughing after she'd drink, and my parents' dog had an awful case of it for a couple of years before he died of the same thing, so it's something I've been aware of. Didn't seem to be anything wrong with his heart this time, though I don't know how early it usually starts showing up. I'd think if it was bad enough to trigger the coughing, it would show on an x-ray. I will ask her about that specifically next time, though. I'm less worried since it's an occasionally wet cough, and the other animals I've seen with it had a dry cough. So there's that.

Oh good. Hopefully that can be ruled out. He's such a little cutie. I hope his visit went well.

Sounds exactly like Morgan. He got a bit better when we tore out all our carpet, and when he gets his meds regularly he never coughs at all. He gets giant talons from the steroids and hates having them trimmed, and he probably will not live as long as he otherwise would, but he's happy and that's what matters.

I keep telling myself that he is insanely healthy otherwise, and there's no way it could possibly be something truly dire in a cat with such dense fur and plush skin and bright eyes and solid muscles, a cat who is so energetic and alert and perpetually hungry.

Fucking hell.* Well, now you know how to get money out of me. Please only use your newfound powers for helping kitties and the more enjoyable types of evil.

*also, buttfucking Republicans on a cracker. I'd come up with better, but I feel the need to go and hug my kitties now.

We're starting to think my Squee has asthma as well. He'll hurk and cough, never throw anything up, and then he's fine. Sometimes it's just for a few seconds, sometimes it goes on for a few minutes. He's beautifully healthy otherwise (other than propensity to UTI, but that's taken care of with food ( ... )
