This is . . . fuck. He's pitiful. This is what he does. He will start playing, and then start coughing, but he won't put his toy down and . . . fuck. It's both hilarious and heartbreaking ( Read more... )

Oh what a cutie. He looks like my Bucky (see icon) when he was a baby, though Bucky is far too serious to ever play fetch.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

Oh wow, he's so incredibly adorable. I really hope you get some positive/fixable/maintainable news from the vet.

I hate to say it, but I would be careful with encouraging physical activity right after an attack. For me, at least, that sometimes restarts attacks.

Also, I am sure I can dig up some earrings I made that I would donate to a help-mah-kitteh auction, if you plan to do one.

Absolutely. I've watched him for that, and usually I do leave off him, but that time I had only thrown the dang mouse ONE TIME when he started, and he was never going to leave me alone with the pitiful and the baby eyes and the "please mom please mom pleasepleaseplease!", so I ran him a bit. He is usually fine after, and doesn't have another, which gives me hope -- slim -- that it may be JUST a lung infection. A nasty one, but just that.

I would really like to be that lucky!

I have to say - the cough sounds like 'crap in lungs' a lot more than 'asthma' to me. (Take with much salt - the sound repro's not the best, and my experience is with people, not cats.) The only rule-of-thumb that might be useful here is that asthmatics generally wheeze more on the exhale, where everyone else wheezes on the inhale.

So many good wishes - he really is beautiful.

Yes! When we started worrying about it it was a very dry cough, but right before we took him to the vet it started getting kind of wet, which was what actually concerned us the most. And it's been like that ever since. He's been having fewer attacks with the antibiotics, many fewer, but now he seems to be coughing shit up more often. IDK if that's normal when an infection is on the run; IIRC, the times I had bronchitis (many) as a kid, it worked like that and I'd cough more gunk up as the infection broke up, but I'm still thinking I might call the vet about it.
