Yeah, I would LOVE to take them both, but I don't know if they'd even go for that, since they know we have two cats already, and three's the official city limit.
I have never, ever had a problem with being one (or three) cats over the limit anywhere. Anywhere. Even official-type people who've noticed have been all "meh, they're healthy". Hell, I have four cats currently in a one-bedroom-two-cat apartment (one is being babysat) and none of the inspectors have said a thing/given any sort of notice because my cat-deposit was already paid.
And I hate to say it, Naamah, but would a black cat out of the corner of your eye this early on make you think it's her?
Cheese whiz! That's a tough choice to make! I just did it myself not too long ago, and ended up taking both sisters. But I'm a sucker that way, and every cat on the planet is aware of it.
Can you try one cat at a time? The local ARF has a 90 day return on adopts. Maybe once you get them away from the noise and craziness, you'd get a better idea of the personality and see how Ms. Fish reacts.
They both sound so wonderful! I wish you a lot of luck with that!
Augh! That is the kind of choice that would leave me tossing and turning for nights uncounted. On one hand, pirate-kitty with the floof and the needing care and silliness, and on the other hand, KITTEN (which would be Fish's reaction with whatever counts as a big smile for her).
As for the official city limit, I fart in its general direction! If having both feels right, and the people are okay with it, I say go for it! The more fuzzy lovins, the better.
Dumb cats are great. Our own entry in that field, Marcus the Backup Kitty, would probably test out at a cool 80 on the human IQ scale and I wouldn't trade him for anything. Go with the derp; you'll have a snuggly friend for life and like you said, the cute kitten will probably do just fine.
Plus, you know you'll kick yourself if you don't. Just saying.
It sounds like they would both fill different niches in your life, so if you could find a way to have both of them that would be awesome. I think for you and the cats both.

Honestly, my instinct is to encourage you to take the one eyed pirate cat, because "Arrghh-purrr" is very YOU.
