I feel ya! You are so right to do it now though. We've lived in this house, which I utterly adore, for 5 years and still haven't finished the bloody painting. I have motivation now - John's parents (the evil MIL from hell) are coming in December for 2+ weeks for his graduation & Cmas. That means we at least have to peel the rest of the ghastly floral paper off the kitchen walls & paint them before 12/11 - and hope we don't have to repair/replace any sheet rock. gah. And in the meantime, I'm busting ass to keep us afloat so he *can* graduate this semester and he's reading or writing papers.
Can't wait to see pix of your great room! I want to do something colorwash-y in the kitchen. I want purple on the walls, but all the light purples look chalky and pasty and the intense purples are too intense. I'm thinking a glaze. Hmmm...
I am just gonna say, if you do a color wash, which is hellaciously easy, it is made even easier by using tools from this site: http://muralsandfauxpainting.com/
It's all very infomercial-y and "THIS IS SO EASY PRAISE JESUS" but the shit WORKS. It's what we've been using, and I cannot IMAGINE doing it with brushes, rags, etc. This is so much less messy. I have not dripped on the carpet even ONCE.
Oh, yeah. It gets better, though. We owned our place for a full month before we ever started moving anything in, and that was one of the most exhausting months of my life. And you are so smart to do all the painting first. I only got 90% done with the downstairs painting, and now it's likely to be next spring before I can finish it.
I want to see what it looks like when it's done. :D
By the by, I finally found something cool enough to justify to myself using those little wipe-on tattoos you sent last christmas! I decided to put them on the headboard of our bed; eventually I'm going to paint the whole thing black and outline the tattoos in silver. Heh!
I feel your pain. We have been moved in for about a month now, and finally it's starting to feel like home. The basement, well, we'll work on that next. :) It is so mentally exhausting to be living between two places that aren't serene, and the physical exhaustion of fixing and redecorating on top of that is murder. I'm glad you're going out to relax for a bit. Take care of you.
