Okay,
alienne's kitty needs to get nuked to take care of hyperthyroidism. Nuking cats is surprisingly expensive, as it turns out, and said friend is looking for ways to make money.
So what I need from you is networking, not donations.
If you need something she can provide, please consider paying her for it. I can attest that she is all kinds of brilliant.
So i've just discovered that one of my kitties -- Trisk, the second youngest -- has hyperthyroidism. Off the scale hyperthyroidism.
She's only 8, so unlike the last cat i had with hyperthyroidism (who was 13 or 14 at the time of diagnosis), she really ought to be nuked. Problem is, this costs about a grand.
Note that i am not asking for donations; I'm keenly aware that almost all the people who might be inclined to throw money my way for this are worse off financially than I am (in many cases, way worse off). I can handle it. But I'd like to put out a networking request, at least. It may be that you or someone you know needs something that's within my areas of competency and would like to pay me for a few hours of my time.
I reiterate that I am not asking for donations . . . in this economy, unless you've really got it to spare, don't just throw money at me. Just don't. I'm looking for ideas, work, whatever -- but not, at this point, charity. It may be that someday I will actually need charity, but now isn't the time. I would be delighted if you would buy work or art from me, but only if you actually want the work or the art, and can afford it.
Comment on this here entry to get started. The Atomic Kitty will thank you.
Things that
alienne can do:
* The Internets -- consulting on web design, web hosting issues of all kinds, development/coding. Also, stuff like "Holy shit, I want a non-LJ blog but all my stuff is on LJ, can I import it including archived comments into a different system?"
* Digital Photo Restoration -- "I lovelovelove restoring beloved old messed up
photos digitally, and I'm really good at it! It's nondestructive, you
can either make your own scans and email them (but check with me for
scan parameters if possible) or mail photos to me and I'll mail them
back once i've scanned them."
* Artiness -- Collage, decoupage, weird painty/mixed-media
stuff, both on canvas and on interesting/functional objects like
jewelry boxes. "I'll follow up tomorrow or Sunday with some images of
pieces I've done. They're not online right now; I've got to get them
up. There's available pieces that already exist, and I take
commissions."
* Calligraphy: Small pieces, mostly, and incorporating
bits of mixed media.
* Book repair/restoration: "Got books that are damaged? I can do
restoration -- I'm not as good as a real book conservatory but I do
have skillz and tools, both. Torn pages, fucked-up hardcover bindings,
paperbacks coming unglued -- as an added bonus, I won't sneer at you
wanting your beloved dogeared paperback restored because it was a
present on your tenth birthday, even though you could buy a new copy
for $5."
"And also, if any of these descriptions make you go, "hey, i had
someone ask me about xyz, and that seems tangentially related..." feel
free to write back and ask if i do that, too -- you've got a LOT of
readers, you know what people are looking for."
Go forth and get what you need for a good cause.
