Hey Jo - I tried what you said, but changing the options wouldn't make the slider selectable. Another thing I've discovered that looks hideous is water in the neighbourhood view - jagged blocks of bright blue. Just like in real life! Not sure I can do anything about that either.
One thing I have to say is: this better not be due to the laptop not being able to handle it - I told the guy what I wanted it for and he made me feel bad, suggesting that this was /way/ above and beyond what I would need for running /the sims/ - which isn't a proper game and all. If I'd known I needed better, I would have got better, even if it cost more. If that's true, I'll be on the freaking war path.
Well I'd be taking it right back to him! My hubby got mine set up specifically to play sims and the graphics card the guy was going to put in was lower, so I told them I wanted the next one up. So I'd take it back and say it's not handing the graphics like it should and for the next level graphics card to be put in. Also not a 'proper game' I haven't even met the jerk and I'm annoyed.
I'm thinking, before going on the war path hehe try looking at the card and its settings. Maybe something is ticked that shouldn't be. I'm not sure where you would find that, maybe under Control Panel. Mines NVDIA, find your card and there might be something under settings or advanced settings that you can change. Maybe even jerk guy knows.
Mine's not NVIDIA - I know that. I kept eyeing one that was because I knew that was good, but that one was more expensive and the guy kept saying how these laptops were more than what the sims required, so I caved and went for this one. There's nothing at all on the BBS, but I looked on boolprop (should have gone there first really *shifty*) and somebody else was complaining about not being able to smooth edges and the only answer that came back was that the video card just didn't support the function (http://www.forums.boolprop.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=48745&p=1382251&hilit=smooth+edges#p1382251), no two ways about it. Question, if you know: are video and graphics cards the same thing? I'm a little confused.
Anyway, now I'm going to have to get the bus to campus, the tram out across town and then go to the Sheffield version of the shop and try not to hurt anyone...
Don't quite the sims Jess! Please don't. We'd definitely rather have jagged Rymans than no Rymans at all, I'd miss it too much. :(
I was lucky when my did this, and had a neighbour on the IT course at uni, I let him muck about with my laptop and upgrade my graphics card for one of his modules, so he did it for free. Don't suppose you have any techy friends?
And the " and @ is the keyboard settings. The 'En' at the bottom of the laptop, next to the time and settings should be set to UK English; the Americans have @ above the number 2, so your laptop will have changed to US and back again.
