Today I had to take Kidling M for her orthodontist evaluation. It has been a forgone conclusion that she was going to need braces and that we were going to have to have a couple of teeth extracted. The appointment was scheduled for the traditional 45 minute consultation complete with a panoramic xray of her mouth. 2 1/2 hours later, and three

Oh GAH! No way! We just went through the braces ordeal and $4000 later- she's got 'em.

If it was just cosmetic braces for crooked teeth I would almost be of a mind to say "deal with it" but since the kidlings have other dental issues of extra teeth (Kidling M), to small mouths and over crowded teeth (Kidling L, with other dental issues thrown on top)I just cant NOT do it. Kidling D is the only one who dosent need extensive dental work before braces, her's is the "honest to God crooked teeth only" need. Thankfully my dentist/orthodontist office does do family discounts.

Yeah we know Kidling L is going to have to have braces too with the palate expanders, headgear etc. But we cant get them until we get 16 years of dental neglect (we didnt get custody/guardianship of her until she was 16, she is actually our foster daughter)is taken care of (worst case of periodontal disease I have seen in a long time. several sessions of debridment and scaling before we can do any fillings and extractions that need to be done before the braces can be done).

And Kidling D needs braces too but her's wont involve extractions and all that mess. Thankfully!
