Part One //\\
Part Two “Professor?”
Professor Utonium looked up from his worked and smiled at the girl hovering in the doorway.
“Yes, Blossom?”
The redhead floated into the room, closing the door behind her.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?”
“Of course!” He beamed at her and held out his hand. She swooped over to sit on the desk in front of him. “What’s up?”
Blossom looked at her feet.
“I’m worried about Bubbles and Buttercup,” she mumbled. “They’ve been acting…kinda weird…”
“Weird how?” the Professor asked.
She scratched her head thoughtfully.
“They’ve been really quiet…and they keep staring off into space with these weird little smiles and blushing…”
Professor Utonium beamed at her.
“Oh that’s nothing to worry about, it sounds like they’re just in love!”
“What?!” Blossom spluttered. “Love? Professor, they could just be sick, or…or…I don’t know!”
The Professor wasn’t listening.
“My little girls, their first love! You’re all growing up so fast! Soon you’ll be leaving home and getting married…Oh, I can’t bear to think about it!”
“Uh…Professor?” Blossom tried, shooting her father a look which stated exactly what she thought of his reaction.
He swept her up in a tight hug.
“Now, Blossom, there’s no need to feel left out because your sisters are already feeling the first flush of young love - ”
“Professor!” Blossom grimaced. “Please!”
“You’ll catch up with them soon enough.”
He let her go and patted her on the head.
“Now I’ve got some work to do, but I’ll see you in a little while, okay?”
Blossom left the room feeling somewhat disgruntled, but at least she had an answer.
She thought of the last guy Buttercup had had a crush on - Ace from the Gangrene Gang - and shuddered. The news that Buttercup had another crush was not good news. Not at all. And god only knew where Bubbles’ taste lay…

Mojo Jojo was, predictably, trying again. With a slightly bigger robot. Which caused a gratifyingly large explosion when the girls destroyed it.
“Aw man!” Buttercup huffed. “That didn’t take long! Now we’re gonna have to take that spelling test!”
“But afterwards,” Bubbles pointed out happily. “We’re doing painting!”
“Painting sucks,” Buttercup muttered sourly, scowling and folding her arms.
“That doesn’t matter,” Blossom said. “We still have to go back.”
Buttercup growled something about Blossom and her status as ‘teacher’s pet’, but obediently she set off in the direction of the school, followed by Bubbles.
Blossom made to set off after them, casting one last cursory glance around the scene, where the police were busy digging Mojo Jojo out of the wreckage, but she paused when she caught sight of a vaguely familiar figure watching her through a café window.
When he saw she’d seen him, he smiled and gestured to the empty seat opposite him in invitation.
“Blossom!” Buttercup yelled irritably. “Come on!”
“Um…You girls go ahead,” she called quickly. “I’ve just remembered I’ve…um…got to return a book to the library! I’ll catch up with you!”
She zipped off. Buttercup snorted and carried on back to school with Bubbles.
“She is such a nerd,” Buttercup muttered.

“Ahem.”
The noise came from around the height of Jack’s knee. He looked down at saw Blossom standing beside the table and a broad, charming smile swept across his face.
“Hey there,” he said. He stood in one smooth movement and she fell back a step, uneasy, but he just moved around the table to pull the other chair out for her.
She climbed onto it, still eyeing him suspiciously as he moved back to his own seat.
“I hope you don’t mind, I already ordered.” He picked up a large mug of coffee as a waiter came over and placed a large ice cream sundae in front of her. “Strawberry, right?”
“…Right…” She frowned at him. “How did you know that?”
“Magic,” Jack said with a grin over the top of his coffee. Blossom raised an unimpressed eyebrow at him, and he reached into the inside pocket of his jacket, pulling out a book and tossing it onto the table in front of him.
‘Everything You Could Ever Want to Know About the Powerpuff Girls’, the title proclaimed in bold letters, above a picture of the three of them.
“Picked it up earlier,” he told her, still grinning as she flushed slightly. “It’s pretty impressive the amount of info they’ve got on you. A little scary, too, but useful.”
“So you know everything about me then,” Blossom said with as much dignity as she could muster, picking up a spoon and digging into the ice cream.
“Pretty much,” Jack drawled, watching her. The intensity of his gaze flustered her a bit, but she rallied.
“I only know one thing about you,” she continued.
“And that is?”
“You helped my sister.”
Jack grinned.
“So you recognised me. I was wondering why you agreed to meet a strange guy for ice cream.”
“Why?”
“’Cause any kid your age should know not to take candy off strangers.”
“No, I mean, why did you help her?”
Jack took a mouthful of coffee, swallowing slowly and studying her thoughtfully before he answered.
“Because I saw a little girl being thrown to what I thought was certain death. I didn’t know she was a super-powered fighting machine.” He set his mug down on the table. “And even if I had, I still would’ve done it.”
“Why?”
“I guess I’m just a big damn hero,” he said lightly, and winked at her.
“That’s not an answer,” Blossom muttered, flushing slightly.
“Well how about, I’ve got an interest in keeping you girls alive? I wanna see how you turn out in a few years.” His smile softened. “You’ll be a looker, and I’ve always had a thing for redheads…”
Blossom’s flush deepened and she looked around to see if anything suspicious was going on around her.
“Look, mister - ”
“Jack.”
“- I appreciate the thought, but…I don’t…really trust you.”
“Good,” Jack said, and she looked at him in surprise. “I like a girl with brains, and sweetheart, if you trusted me right away I’d know I’d misplaced my faith.”
He drained his mug of coffee and stood, tossing some money on the table.
“This one’s my treat,” he said, winking at her again, before turning and leaving.
“Hey wait!” Blossom yelped, hopping off her chair and running after him. She caught up with him just outside the door to the coffee shop. “Am I going to see you again?”
He raised an amused eyebrow at her.
“I thought you didn’t trust me,” he commented.
Flushing again, Blossom looked at her feet.
“I don’t,” she muttered. “But… you can never have too much help, y’know… And… I’ve still got some questions…”
Jack grinned and reached down to tug on her bow gently.
“Don’t worry, gorgeous,” he told her. “I’ll be around.”
He headed off and Blossom watched him go, still blushing faintly.
