It's funny how most people will ignore someone sitting playing music as they go about their daily hustle and bustle, like we buskers are some sort of figment of their imagination. It can be disheartening, but then someone will come along and drop a few coins or dollars into your hat and flash you an encouraging smile, and you find your faith in ( Read more... )

Except when you play inside a concert hall. Millions are paid and you still get no attention.

Playing in concert halls can be overblown. I prefer more intimate venues.

Encouraging smiles are worth more than money. Well, I mean, not more than money but they're worth quite a bit? You just can't use them to get food and stuff.

They're worth more in a personal sense. They show someone noticed, and possibly cared. Money is simply a means to an end.

Yeah. I mean, if I'm at a coffeeshop that actually has live music, it's incentive to come back. And see if there's a tip jar or CDs for sale out.
