Oh wow, I remember reading Companions of the Night a long time ago. And if I recall, I thought it was pretty awesome. I'm with you on this one--I love it when vampires actually enjoy being vampires. It's refeshing. I don't remember The Silver Kiss very well, but the vampire in it is...kind of mopey. And the girl is pretty mopey, too. Blood and Chocolate is better about having less angst, but with werewolves instead of vampires.
I saw B&C the movie. It was interesting if fragmented and I'm guessing much different than the book (mostly because there was loads about blood in the movie but not enough about chocolate). I haven't got round to reading it. Hope it's better.
Ah, then I will stay away from Silver Kiss. There's only so much emo I can take but especially emo vampires have become really tiring lately. There is some angst in CotN as Kerry is blaming herself for her mother leaving but she's grown up by the time the novel's finished. The Labyrinth-esque elements are there if you know where you're looking but I believe the process of growing up was the strongest one.
Thank you! I can has a small reprieve now! I'm exhauuusted.
I just spent all damn day arranging mountains and mountains of books on my shiny new bookcases, and what did I stumble across? Companions of the Night! I haven't read it for years and years, but I used to love it to bits. I am totally breaking it out for my commute tomorrow; I'll let you know how it fares on a re-read.
Hee. I'm the opposite: I re-cast all my fictional crushes as dark-haired! Er, just don't tell my (blonde) boyfriend.
