002 [shine like oil on machinery]

Oct 05, 2009 12:36

The past week has been a better primer on the nature of this place than any amount of explanation and history could be. Knowing this, I have a question for those who know--what are the requisites for joining the guard?

In gratitude,
Paladin

I think your best bet would be to ask Bastet. She also usually writes in the journal when she's looking for new guards.

Are you sure it is really proper to appeal such a thing to the head of the guard herself?

Well she could give you more information, that's what I'm saying. I'm just not wording it very well!

I see. If you are sure she is not too busy to be bothered by my asking, then I will do so. Thank you, Lucy.

Patience, I hear, is a virtue most prized among the guards. Much of your time is spent in waiting and idleness; so I hear, at least, from my neighbor.

Such is the nature of any sentinel position. I believe I am stalwart enough to handle it.

What I was thinking of, though, was outfitting. I own little, and would require rather a substantial loan to be able to arm myself.

I've been given a gift of steel and I'm to have it forged ere long; I'm fairly certain I can't make use of all that I have, however. Should I find myself a blade too many you're welcome to use it for a while.

Mayhap you would practice swordplay for sport?

Something more specific than that, actually--has to do with icons mythgravenblade October 5 2009, 21:23:57 UTC
I would be honored to be so indebted to you. Should this come to pass, I will repay you and gladly.

If you are offering, I would be glad to work on my form with you. It is one thing to know that you know swordsmanship, and another to know swordsmanship.

You have to be good at fighting, want to protect people, and have a good head on your shoulders. Talk to Bastet and Stoneface! We could use some more people.

I do not believe I know whose words these are, sir or madam...?

Then, I would not need to outfit myself, or would receive a loan to do so?

Oh! This is Cara, sorry.

Hm... I could let you have a sword on loan, but I don't want you to be in debt 'till you've got a proper job. I could let you borrow something if you need it for the Guard interview, though.

Ah, Cara! Thank you again for your kindness the other day.

If it must come to that, I will be deeply indebted to you. Thank you.

This is Stoneface, and I'm the second of the Guard. Here are the conditions: You've got to be able to fight off whatever this place throws at you, and you've got to be in it for the right reasons. Most important thing is that you've got a good head on your shoulders and common sense. The Guard isn't the place for anybody who goes flying into battle headfirst with thoughts of honour and heroism on his mind. It's tedious, mindless work a lot of the time. We stand around the Hatchery and we patrol. There's no medals to be had here.

Think about that for a while, then get back to us. If you're still interested and meet the requirements, I for one would be happy for another one for the team.

Well met, my Lord Stoneface. I understand and would be grateful to have my work be uneventful. If you are willing to give me a chance, where should I go and when to be examined for the position?

Just Stoneface will suffice.

You'll have to wait for a while. We like to see how the new guys react to what this place has to throw at you before making any concrete decisions.

That's more than fair, sir. When and if you ever have need of me, ask.
