052 [secure yourself to heaven, hold on tight, the night has come]

There may be something wrong with the squirrels.

One fell from its perch and nearly crushed the house--but upon examination, it was dead, without sign of injury, without clear sign of sickness, without sign of old age.

I pray this is an isolated incident, but given their size, I recommend caution.

I see.

Be careful as well, Paladin.

I will be.

Though, I could use a hand getting the body out of the yard...

Of course! It would be hard to move on your own! I shall be right over.

Dead, just like that?

Maybe I should talk to some of the birds.

So it would seem.

That seems wise. I'd avoid the squirrels--if it is some odd sickness, you mustn't catch it.

All right. But you need to be extra-careful about that dead one, then.

I promise I will be.

I'm sorry to even say this, but it's not the only one. There's one in the meadow outside the house. Spooked the horses half to death, too.

It's said that one is happenstance and two is coincidence...but I'm not sure of that here. Is everyone (and everything) all right?

Yeah. I'm not sure what to do with the thing--burn it, perhaps? It'll start to rot soon enough. But no one or nothing was harmed.

That is a good question--burning it may be best. I doubt even the dragon could eat all of these corpses.

I am glad to hear that.

The squirrels? Do you think the birds are all right?

It didn't fall on anyone, did it?

It narrowly missed me and the house, but other than the excitement, all is well here.

I know little of the birds--but Krile can speak to animals, and she plans to see whether they have any information.

I hope she can find something out. I thought we had plenty to worry about already, but I suppose I should know better.

If it wasn't sick, it's at least an improvement over the falling dead ants.

And if it bore no injuries from the impact, perhaps simply the shock of falling killed it. [Clumsy squirrels? Well, he can hope...]

True.

That is possible...however, I'm not sure: my perception of its fall was that it was dead in midair.

I see. That's... more troubling.

It is always possible that I am wrong, but in this place, I don't think it is possible to over-worry.
