I just happened across
another article on China's arms buildup.
I have been convinced for the last several years of attention to China's behavior that we will be at war with them in another ten or twenty years. It is only a matter of time.

What's going on. )

Diplomacy, politics, economics, war... these are all different ways of dealing with the same basic, social forces. The struggle between individuals and groups for dominance, to have what we want, and to control others. Whether that is controlling others for our own gain, or controlling the dangerous would-be controllers so that they cannot conquer the rest of us.
Some of us can try to be more civilized and rational... but the problem is that, for as long as even one nation or group will barbarically threaten the rest of us, the rest of us have to be willing to go to war to protect our more peaceful way of life. Ironic, isn't it?

Lastly, and possibly the strangest, is that when they packed up their furniture, he packed some of the papers including these articles. Upon unpacking, the papers seemed to be gone.
Now, I don't know how much of this is a) my father lying to my husband (not intentionally, he just likes to play jokes) and b) my husband embellishing (he has a penchant for being hyperbolic) but it's not the first I've heard of such nefarious activities.

If you are a fan of conspiracy theories, think about that lovely one-child policy of theirs, implemented in the late 70's that favors boys and leaves baby girls in the woods to die. Those early babies would be entering their 30's today.
Hmmm, a mostly male adult population in a country that hold's 1/5 of the world's pop. That's one incredible army.
Those who aren't worried are sticking their heads in the sand.
