Chapter 8: Agony

The blue roses that once bloomed began to wither. Slowly and cruelly bore the time of its death with its ugliness. Memory and brilliance that once lingered faded as it would never continue, as it would never happen again. The happiness that once tasted was fragile and easily broken, still arms holding around each other as if they would never be apart. Their smiles were nothing but ignorance. A love that should never bear fruit, a love that should be condemned, a love that was forbidden, their love was nothing but a sin.

And the giant gates of hell opened for them.

“What are you doing?”

The once bound men of holiness broke apart. Through the eyes that seemed to cut their flesh, Uruha shook. He was afraid. It was a selfless fear as he shielded his body in front of Aoi. There were no mere excuses or explanations to what his older brother had seen but an act of foolishness.

“Come with me.”

When Uruha saw Kai’s back as he walked away, his insides felt a slight relief. He looked back and smiled to Aoi, touching his face with such adoration. Then his warmth moved away as he walked through the aisle. Aoi’s eyes were pinned to his back and without him realizing, he was already running to him. He held his body, possessing it completely.

“Let me go... please.”

Nobody wanted to make it difficult for anyone. If he could just let him go as what he pleaded, it would be the best for both of them. If something like this was absolutely right, how come it pained him more than doing something awfully wrong? He loosened his embrace and stood quietly as Uruha left. His incompetence was more than irritating.

Uruha was kilometers far when he decided to turn back. If he did earlier, he knew he wouldn’t be able to leave. He just wanted to picture the place where it all happened. He must have been stupid because even though he knew that waking up from such a nice dream would hurt him, yet, he chose to embrace it. He turned back and to his surprise he saw someone went in. He was dumbfounded seeing the mad version of someone he knew, the cruel and evil part of that person.

“No... No... A...Aoi...”

He was supposed to return but someone from his back covered his nose with a cloth oozing with drugs. Bit by bit, his body became paralyzed and helpless. He couldn’t do anything as the door closed with an unbearable gap from him. With another blink of an eye, there was an explosion and the stunning powdered crystals of the windows were reflected on his eyes. A tear run down to his face as he lost his consciousness.

He left him in solitude to burn.

“09-Skull was specifically designed for Ruki’s nervous pattern. Well, it might be possible to alter Uruha’s memories but surely there would be some complications and side-effects.”
“Tell me I0209, can you finish the 10-Skull by tomorrow?”
“That would be impossible.”
“Then just so be it. Erase everything on Uruha’s mind by 09-Skull.”

“Erase everything?”

Ah those memories, the bloody fight, the murders, Byou, all of it might vanish to the deepest depths hell. Life would be bliss without it. Even... Aoi’s death... all of it would disappear. The pain and sorrow together with it would be gone.

“Something like that... I... don’t.... want...”

Kai looked at him as he forced himself to sit up, fighting the slight numbness of his body. Manabu ran to support him as Uruha walked his way to Kai, clenching his fingers to his coat and laying his head against his chest. Kai reclined on the desk behind him as he supported Uruha’s weight.

“Don’t erase my memories! Nii-san!” he cried.

Aoi existed.

That was when Uruha started living. Knowing each other - Dating - Living together - Eating dinner - Fighting - Laughing - Getting Jealous - Receiving Presents - Embracing - Kissing - Marrying - all of it he did with him. He did not want to forget.

“I’ll marry you and do what you want just... don’t... erase his existence.”

Kai pinned his eyes to his pathetic yet beautiful figure and gently caressed his face.

“I love you,” he leaned down to kiss him.

For a second, Uruha calmed down but to his surprise a foreign object began to violate his throat, sliding within against his will. He tried to push him as Kai’s kiss became deeper and deeper. The back of his head was fixedly held by him same with his body. If even with his full strength he wasn’t able to defy him, what more with this half-paralyzed body. Any resistance at the moment was a futile effort.

His hands fell down from Kai’s arms to his side.
Tears fell down from his eyes as he surrendered himself completely.

“Uruha...”
“Uruha...”
“Uruha...”

Aoi’s voice echoed on his ears as Kai’s tongue continued to abuse him.

“I love you...”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

His body trembled as he fell on the floor, saliva dripping from his mouth. He covered his lips with his hand as he pushed his abdomen, trying to vomit the drug. It only took few minutes for him to stop. He seemed to lose his strength as his head was bowed to the floor. Body seemed to be lifeless as he sat quietly on the floor.

Kai kneeled down and raised his head.

“What happened to him?”
“It might have been a shock,” Manabu examined him. “Anyway, he’ll be good as a quiet doll for now, too convenient for you.”
“Yeah, sort of. It’s easier to manage if he’ll remain like this especially on my father’s presence.”

He lifted the other’s body and unintentionally squeezed Uruha’s limbs that made him arched a bit. Kai noticed the sudden reaction especially the moment Uruha leaned comfortably on his chest and fell asleep. It might be the first. Uruha innocently smiled in front of him.

“Hey Uruha, you’re really fond of this music...”

Uruha smiled and dropped the bear down to its shelf.

“Canon is a special song,” it could only remind him of his brother.
“Cute...” Aoi pinched his cheeks.
Uruha blushed, “Yes. It’s a warm memory.”
“Are you stupid? I’m talking about you.”

When Uruha turned back, he was surprise to see Aoi, cornering him beside the shelf.

“I love you,” their lips met.

Aoi opened his eyes and found himself in an unfamiliar place. The room was painted in white, minimally decorated. Aside from the bed, closet, wide screen TV and DVD player, the place were filled with different caliber bullets and firearms lying on the floor and hanging on the wall. He was surprised that even in the closet there were battle types of rifles usually prohibited for personal use. There were some collector’s items and some were exclusive for millitary’s use. Aoi is a type of guy very fond of these things.

“I see you’re knowledgeable about guns. Can you assemble that?”

He pointed at the FAMAE FD-200 sniper rifle.

“Give me at least seven minutes.”

“Let’s get out of here. This place will blast in two minutes.”
“Kai summoned you to finish me, right? Yet why are you helping me?”
“Someone asked me to, I’m a friend. Trust me. I’m Kazuki.”

“Amazing,” Kazuki sat beside him. “That would be your mistress.”
“So what kind of training I’ll be going to?”

Aoi played with his armor, examining its aim to the wall.

“I’ll teach you how to kill.”

He let those words slid like a joke.

Kazuki smiled at him and walked towards the curtain wall. He pulled the hanging string and a secret underground stair assembled on the floor. Aoi went down with him and to his surprise there was a kid tied on a chair in front of him, eyes blind folded and his mouth was taped.

“He’s an orphan so even if he dies, no one would look for him.”

The kid was slightly familiar to Aoi. The way he dressed and his complexion, it was evident that he came from a wealthy family. When Kazuki removed the blind fold, Aoi remembered seeing him in a magazine feature. He’s a son of a wealthy politician who was supposed to undergo a trial for graft and corruption. However, his whole family disappeared before the hearing.

“Are you... the one who killed his parents?” Aoi gritted his teeth.

Kazuki recklessly drew the tape on the kid’s mouth almost plucking off the skin on his lips.

“Mommy! Mommy!” the kid cried.
“Correct!” Kazuki pulled the trigger of his revolver and pointed it to the kid’s head. “Can you kill him Aoi-san?”
“Just as I thought, I don’t like how this organization works,” Aoi lit a cigarette. “Release the kid,” he raised his gun against his instructor.
“Oh, that’s bad,” Kazuki untied him.
“Run,” Aoi shook his head to the stairs.

The kid nodded and his knees swayed as he hurried through his so-thought-of exit.

“First, shoulder its weight. Lean down and back-off a little...”

Aoi wasn’t able to process how swift he was coming to his back, gently assisting his shoulders and lifting his arms.

“Aim for the head, then shoot...”

Blood splattered on his wide-opened eyes as the kid’s body with his blown up head hit the stoned floor. Aoi shivered as he was tainted with crimson dye. He fell on his knees, eyes still pinned on the corpse, having difficulty to understand what just happened.

“Bull’s-eye.”

Aoi cold-bloodily raged and attacked Kazuki. His temperament was beyond anger. He looked at him with his deadly and detested eyes.

“You don’t really understand amateur. Kai’s strong because he only aimed at one thing. He held his sword to protect that one thing. He’s prepared to destroy everything for that one thing. Fill your heart with anger and grief, that’s the only way to surpass him.”

When I met you, I didn’t fully understand what it means to be you. If this is the same pain you’ve been carrying, I feel like I only begin to hate myself. I only relied on my belief. I’ve thought of it a thousand times lighter. This kind of agony... how can your thin body shoulder this with such composure? I’m starting to lose myself.

“Aoi... I’m really... happy.”

“AHHHHHHHHHHH!” Aoi screamed as he beat himself.
“To be able to protect a single person, are you willing to sacrifice countless futures?”

“Aoi, I’m really happy that you came for me.”

So that he wouldn’t have to cry anymore, so that he wouldn’t have to be alone anymore, he has to hold his feet firmly on the field stained red with blood.

“Tell me more... how to become strong, Kazuki.”

With eyes kept barely open I still see you far away, Uruha.

Uruha widely opened his eyes in the deep night. He walked against the moonlight, shadows casting on his distanced back. To whom is he connected? He pressed the cross on his chest. He certainly heard it... the screams of the soul in purgatory.
