Chapter 7: Pure Love

“Yubikiri genman, uso tsuitara hari senbon nomasu, yubi kitta.”
[Pinky promise pledge, if you're lying, I'll make you drink a thousand needles. Pinky promised!]

“There, that’s our oath. We’ll always be together Reita! Now and forever, I will love you!”

That was then, years ago. The memory that seemed to be very vivid in his mind, the scent of the orphanage and the mild soap as they cleaned the window glass, gradually began to be eaten by the reality. Ruki’s little body, his strawberry clipped bangs and his innocent smile, everything seemed to be a part of history.

“If you’re lying, I’ll make you drink a thousand needles... huh...”

He was leisurely reclining on a tree, drinking soda with Aoi. They’ve arrived yesterday at the Crown of Thorns’s base at Tokushima. The cherry blossom tree was really beautiful. Although he had seen so many, the trees in the Tokushima were more... no, he knew it was not because of that.

He was never fond of his surroundings until he became aware of them.

“It seems like we have the same enemy,” Aoi smiled bitterly.
“Bastard, at least you know Uruha loves you...”

It might looked like a lie hearing how complex the scenario from Ruki’s own lips. But it was the truth. He was already in love with someone else and that man discarded him, dumping Ruki into a corner, using him the way he wanted to. And even how hard he wish for every falling star he’ll ever see, it was of no use. He could never reset the game and make Ruki fall in love to him once again.

He could never force it but he could work for it.

Just being by his side, warming his cold shoulders, protecting him as long as he could, it might make a difference.

“Rei, let’s talk. You’ve been avoiding me.”

Reita’s thoughts began to materialize. He wanted to be with him and talk to him but to a situation like what he was up to, he wondered what kind of words he was supposed to say. Should he be angry and throw harsh and painful words to him? There’s no way he could do that. With the nothingness that came to his mind, he had no choice but to avert any kind of conversation.

Aoi patted Reita’s shoulder and left.

“Aoi...”

It was like him being left out in a hopeless fight.

“Rei, don’t run away from me. We’re suppose to be helping each other here. Let’s fix this, for Aoi and Uruha. For everything that we had and we’ve... lost, let’s begin to patch our painful bond. With all of me... with the real me.”
“It’s like... in TV dramas... these things... I wish I could say “Forget him. I’m the one who could make you happy,” and pretend like it is the same as before but it’s not that easy considering I was the one forgotten. Come to think of it, you already did forget him,” he smiled. “But still, now that you’ve remembered everything, you still want him, don’t you Ruki? You want him more than me.”

Reita cornered him against the tree and with his force the pitiful flowers fell into them, like a beautiful romantic film. He lifted his face and kissed him. It was not aggressive or desperate but more of a soft and gentle one. To him, Ruki would always be the small child he used to take care and cherish. He held him with subtle effort, with his hands running to the other’s arms, sliding from his shoulders and when it was completely fallen, the kiss was broken.

“I’m sorry,” Reita cupped his face. “It’s not like it’s your fault.”
“I hate it too, that side of me who loves Kai but... it is not something I could help,” he held the hand on his face, brushing his skin wetted by tears. “No matter how hard I force myself to forget him, it’s becoming more helpless. I want to...” his cry began to affect his words. “I want to be with you but I can’t… until he’s still inside of me.”
Reita pulled him to his body, hugging him tightly, “It’s enough. Hearing that is enough, you don’t need to force yourself to forget him. I’ll help you. I’ll stay with you even if it takes forever for you to get over him.”
“It’s too much Rei...”
“Shut up! Geez, you’re still a crybaby like before.”

Everything seemed to be a miracle. I was captured by your warmth. It seems to be greed that I want to hold you. I try to hide it, but it stays like that. You gave me hope and colors to my life like how it was. Slowly, I begin to move closer to you with this little miracle of love with just one embrace.

Above the row of trees, Kai was watching them through his window at the third floor of the building. There wasn’t any emotion, just a pure blank one. Without feeling anything, without doing anything, it was good for him. Only one person could move him and touch his heart.

Aoi was randomly walking around. The place was too big and one day might not be enough to see it completely. The truth is, he wanted to see Uruha but there’s no way he could climb the other’s room at this broad daylight. He did not want to die at the moment for the very least. He was just hoping to bump him somewhere and maybe spend a little time with him if it’s not too much to wish for.

However, the one he saw was the worst person he’ll never wish to see.

“Byou... Don’t tell me you’re...”
“Huh? Aren’t you too high of yourself mongrel? I’m not going to handle you.”

He walked away calmly, scratching his head, with a particular irritation sketched on his face.

“Aren’t you going to do something to me?”
Without turning back Byou replied, “Look mongrel, you’re alive not because of any luck or nine lives on your pocket you motherfucker. Once you’ve become worthless, I’ll hold your beloved Uruha to swim with your blood and crushed body, intoxicated with lust, as I impregnate him with my seed.”
“Fuck...”

Aoi was about to stumble on his sweet poison when Uruha’s sweet and angelic voice saved him.

“Aoi...”

He was mesmerized and frozen to his standing.

“Tsk,” Byou silently left.

When Aoi turned back to see him, he was stunned by the beautiful yellow kimono, minimally printed with black butterfly pattern. His obi was of like a woman’s and perfectly tied on his back. His hair was decorated with flowers and little ornaments hanging down to his shoulders. He was very gorgeous with his light make-up and his sophisticated walk with his wooden slippers made him over-attractive.

Aoi followed him that led him to a small cathedral.

It was a bit of a surprise. The ambiance was very new and different to him. It was solemn and quiet with the striking stained glass illuminated on every window. Uruha was carrying lilies as he walked to the altar painted and styled with elements of Baroque. It felt peaceful and as he passed every row of seat and walk next to him, it became calmer and restful.

“My mother is a Christian,” Uruha softly smiled. “Nii-san... built this to lay her grave.”
“She was... punished, right? For killing someone...”
“I0209 told me he was my father. You’ll meet him for sure, he knows a lot of things and he’s really a nice person,” he laid the flowers next to the vase where her mother’s ashes were kept. “I saw Ruki a while ago. He looks upset. I wonder what happened to him and Reita. Ah, I’m happy that he’ll be the one training him. They’ll be together a lot.”
“I don’t think it’ll be good to them.”
“Huh?”
“Ah it’s nothing. How about you?”

Uruha paused for a while, a little embarrassed to face him.

“It would be impossible,” he giggled. “You’re so cool when you hold a gun. I think someone like Kazuki would be in charge of you.”
“You’re... very beautiful right now,” Aoi grasped his body to turn him smoothly. “You know I always see to it that you’re looking at me when you’re talking.”

Aoi finally saw it, the beautiful red face flowing with tears.

“I don’t want this!” he cried. “I’m... really... happy you’re here. Even though... even though I know... it’ll be hard for you... I’m happy... that you came for me.”
Aoi let him rest to his chest, “Stupid. It’s my fault. I’m so pathetic.”
“No,” he shook his head. “Aoi is very cool! But...” the expression on his face saddened. “I don’t really think it’s good. Aoi, I hope you’ll reconsider your decision. The Crown of Thorns isn’t...”

Aoi silenced him with his lips.

“You’re really stupid! I know. I completely understand that this is death itself,” Aoi caressed his face. “But you have to know that I’m really a talented person.”
Uruha smiled, “Moron.”
“Yeah yeah. Aaahh... I know... you did this to protect me and... it seems like I’m really a moron but there’s no way I’ll let you marry him. You’re still brothers, right? What is he thinking? I know it won’t make you happy whatever his reason is.”
“How... could you say that?”
“It’s because you’re in love with me!”

Uruha burst out laughing.

“Why? It’s true, right? That’s why you’ll only do it with me. Let’s... get married.”
“Eeeh? How...”

Aoi led him to the center of the altar. Uruha almost tripped down because of the uneven elevation but Aoi caught him with his body letting him feel his heartbeat. They held each other’s hand tightly as they stand face-to-face with their inerasable smile on their cheeks. Their eyes glittered looking into each other, breathing the same feelings they’ve carried ever since.

“Aaah Uru, how’s this done...?”
“Eeeh? Let’s see, we do the vows then... Ah, we don’t have rings too...”

I got lost into this beautiful dream in front of me and I willingly let myself fell for it. Through this life consisted with sorrow, in the most unexpected time and space, I found reasons to put myself together. Because of him, I was able to become a person that I would love to be. I want to be with him. I want to live my life with him. And if this now was not supposed to exist and fade with the black veil of fate, surely I won’t forget, that there’s this one moment in my life that I really and truly became happy.

“Ah removed it, the Magdalene’s Cross, we do have the same right?”
“It’s a necklace Aoi. It’s supposed to be a ring!” Uruha pouted.
“Ah, it’s okay, it’s okay. What about the vows?”
“Aaahh... It goes like this... In the name of God, I, Uruha...”
“In the name of God, I, Aoi...”
“ ...take you, Aoi, to be my husband...”
“...take you, Uruha, to be my wife...”
“Eeeeh...wi...wife...”
“Arrrrrgggh... Just continue!”

Without thinking anything, even the unworthiness of me, I embrace this precious dream with him. Even now, I know I still don’t have the strength to protect him. There’s nothing I could do for him but to stay by his side. I might get into his way but there’s no way my life could go on without him. I love him more than myself. I love him more than I loved anyone in my entire life. And if this love becomes painful and impossible, I’ll shoulder all of its weight and let him sleep under my wings.

“...to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.”

Uruha giggled, “It really looks like we’re really getting married. I’m happy.”
“This is real! Ah! You’re making fun of me!”
“Aaah no, no Aoi,” Uruha hugged him. “I’m serious! It’s just so unbelievable. It’s very different to what I’ve always think of. There were no rings, long ceremonies... I don’t even wear a beautiful white gown...”
“Geez, I’m sorry if it’s not what you’ve dreamed of.”
Uruha shook his head and smiled, “No, this is perfect just exactly what I’ve wishing for.”
Aoi blushed and bit his lips, “Then? What’s next?”
“Eh? Ah... let’s see... ki-ki-kiss...”

Aoi burst out laughing on how Uruha blushed. They’ve done it a couple of times but he guessed this one was really special. He lifted the other’s face and gently pulled his body closer to him. Then he sweetly placed his lips against the other.

“I love you,” both of them whispered.

They kissed again with their arms wrapped to each other.

The person I’m waiting for, it is definitely you. This image might be so unfamiliar because it’s the first time I’m showing myself to you. Enduring it alone and holding back because I know how lonely and difficult it is. I tried so hard by myself, but I know it’s a dream. I’m afraid that I’ll regret it if I don’t say it, I’d like to take a look at your heart now.

A/N: I hope you like it.
