I so appreciated this chapter. You stated the way we
all felt about the election. The aftermath and the whole thing was so so sublime. I can tell you I never thought to
live to see the day, that not only was a black man elected to be president, but not because he was black. Simply because he was the best person for the job...That is a new day for us in
this country. I feel like we are going into the light. We
have been in the darkness for so long in this last few years.
God bless us everyone, and the new President, in the job he has to do. Thank you so much. janice

Glad Ed and Hank expressed how you felt about the election too! You said it all so well and "sublime" is the perfect word for what we all witnessed. It sure is a new day for us in this country and, even with the economy, etc, as bad as it is, for the first time in a real long time we all feel like we are going from darkness into the light as well.

I'm very happy with the election. I was very disappointed in California but it shows us we have more work to do to spread the knowledge that being a homosexual is not a bad thing. I know that the latino's and african americans are still a little behind in accepting homosexuals so I think it hurt us that we got them all to vote but I'm also proud they did vote. Hell I did not think I would ever see an african american win presidency. I'm only 44 but in 1970 in my small town in central PA we did not have any African American's until a family moved into town the father was a doctor at the local hospital and we needed doctors in our small town but people were so cruel and against him and his family. They moved in right down the block from my house and people started shunning my father and mother because they welcomed them into the neighborhood and my father a school administrator was quite upset over how their children were being treated in school to the point that one late night a cross was burnt in our front yard and theirs. Wow. That's so terrible that a cross was burnt in your yard and your neighbors. I don't blame your mother for sending you away for a couple of months. I'm sure glad it all worked out in the end. We were very disappointed in California too. It is ironic that in California the black folks who helped elect Obama voted 70% for prop 8 to 30% against, but like you I am still very glad that they were out voting and that Obama got elected. I did read that at the last minute the "yes on prop 8" folks were sending black voters information about Obama saying he believed marriage was "just between a man and a woman" while, of course, leaving out that Obama was in fact against proposition 8. I get awfully tired of all the semantics involved. Of course I'm not happy with Obama's choice of words, but at least he is strongly in favor of civil unions, does support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and was definitely against Proposition 8. Maybe enough people just didn't know that, or maybe it still wouldn't have made a difference. I don't know, ( ... )

Glad you enjoyed it. Ed and Hank sure did. (Especially the parts later that Hank didn't write about...)

thank you for this post!!! In this past eight years, I cannot remember being so relieved and hopeful. It almost seemed like everyday was a challenge of stress and anxiety due to our political situation.

As a Californian, I am personally mortified about Prop. 8 but I have to tell you we worked long and hard, and I never believed this was possible! I guess you cannot let your guard down for even a second.

I love this series and do not comment often enough, but I do thank you!

Glad you've been enjoying Ed and Hank! We're all still very relieved and hopeful here too. Hank still can't quite believe it's true. But it is. *HUGE sigh of relief*

But... we're also still very upset about Proposition 8. I know you and a whole lot of other people worked very hard to keep it from being passed. Hopefully, it will be overturned by the California Supreme Court because civil liberties for anyone should not be able to be taken away by a majority of the population. Hank wanted to drag Ed to the protest in Salt Lake City last Friday night, but they couldn't get away. He's hoping there might be something else this weekend 'cause they could get there then.
