she has arrived!

Actually, I picked her up yesterday at about 2:15 pm. -squee-

Yes, my puppy is here, and, boy, has it been a crash course so far! It always happens that when I am feeling confident about how everything will go down as soon as it actually happens I know nothing! I don't even know if that sentence makes any sense because I hardly slept last night.   ( Read more... )

My whippet was already a year old when I got him, but the breeder told us not to crate him for the first few nights. I don't think we did it for a couple of weeks... at first he slept in our bed, and then on a pillow on the floor, and then in the office.... etc. We never had any problems weaning him out of the bed, but it may be different when it's a puppy.

Also, the reason we DID start crating him was because he started destroying stuff in the morning - boxes and shoes and such. I suppose a puppy would be much worse, so I dunno how much this helps you!

Thanks for the input!

The breeder told me that it is okay to crate her, but the first few nights would be unsettling. My room has some wires and such that cannot be put away, so a crate or an X-pen are the only options. My mom won't let me have an X pen in my room, so... I really only had one option. :/

Yeah, she has a liking for my shoes, but I sprayed them with bitter apple and she seems to steer clear--for now. @__@

I guess we'll see how it turns out. I hoping she won't cry as much tonight... it was so sad to hear! D:

Congratulations on her arrival! One of my very happiest memories ever is when I picked Faith up from her breeder. It will be rough for a little while, but I bet you will enjoy it, and you will be surprised at how fast the puppy stage goes by.

If she's crying at regular intervals throughout the night, what I would do is get up and take her out before she starts crying. When I took her out I would be extremely boring. I am not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but my sister's whippet was a *complete* pain in the butt about his crate. Heck, sometimes he still is. He makes up for it with his other wonderful whippet-y qualities, though!
