Alice, huh? I didn't feel too attached to her this time around, but I do recall thinking it was a shame she died when I first played the game. Of course, that'd be a relationship doomed to fail. Talk about an angsty love triangle.

I think what intrigued me is they set it up so it looked like it would be a major thing. AN dyou can tell that she had more feelings for Fei. And just... ;~; *is such a sap* plus... I like how they gave such pretty designs to even minor characters, or ones that were only present for a little bit. But yeah...

The village exploding makes me cryyyyyy T_T I mean.. I played the game when I was 8 for the first time, and it was fine, but now... I think I have too much of a grasp of what's going on to not be uber depressed by it.

The cooking comment and the good shape comment look like hilarious examples of the translators not even trying to consider the culture they're translating to. Hilarious.

Yeah, that's basically what I'm making fun of: the localization. My theory is, they dropped this huge script on the guy's desk and went, "Can you have this done in a month? :D :D :D" and this is the result. Until Dragon Age and its codex entries (which surely amount to thousands of words), Xenogears had more text than any game I'd ever played. Sucks for whoever had to localize it. :/

Xenogears is a decent game, but it really should have been a novel instead - I think it'd fit in with the best of the pulp and classic SF, even if it lacks subtlety in many ways. I say this because, as a game, it can be... trying.
