OMG! It's a post!

It seems like forever since I posted. I guess it is easier to update a facebook status than do an actual post. I'll have to try harder. After all, I feel like LJ chronicles my life somewhat. Facebook doesn't.

So Izzie is settling into her new home. She still has some potty training issues, but she is getting better. She has the greatest personality ( Read more... )

Wave when you're in Amsterdam :) I'm about a 30 minute public transport away from Amsterdam in the city that are the unofficial suburbs known for it's popularity by people starting a family, Almere -- which is the same size as Amsterdam with about 1/10 of the amount of people ;)

We are really excited about this holiday. Neither of us have been there before. However, I fell in love with Ghent when we visited Belgium. In my mind's eye, I picture Amsterdam to be similar with the Dutch architecture and canals. I know I'll love it even if it isn't exactly the same. :)

Anywhere you think we should go? We have a tour booked to do the red light district one evening. And we are definitely spending at least half a day wandering around the Keukenhof. I've looked at some city tours but couldn't decide on one. My husband and I love museums, but the friend who is coming with us gets bored with them easily. So we will probably save our visits to the Riijksmuseum and the Hermitage Amsterdam until our next visit.

Any restaurants that might be worth our time? We don't generally do the touristy restaurants and stuff. We prefer to eat real food.

Ah! That explains why I couldn't find it on the city map of Amsterdam! We have our car though so it should be fine. Originally we were going to take a bus tour from England to Amsterdam, but they were mainly stopping at tourist traps which didn't interest us. So I made our own tour. :)

Yes, we are taking a walking tour of the red light district including a talk by an ex-prostitute. I'm not sure if she is the tour guide or not. It is apparently a popular tour. We thought it would be interesting.

I'm glad you mentioned the Waterlooplein. That was on my list of things we wanted to check out, but forgot.

I've not had Indonesian food, but it sounds like something I would like. We'll have to give it a try. We love Turkish so that might have made it onto the list anyway. :p

I'm bummed we missed the exhibition at the Hermitage. We looked at the website to see if it was still there. Oh well. I guess that is another reason to visit St. Petersburg, eh?

Thank you so much for your advice!
